THIS WEEKEND (この週末)

This weekend we had no rain.  It was mostly cloudy with some sunshine, and it was very humid.
We were busy at gardening.

I made an observation platform (a bench and a handrail) at the top of a new garden.

A view from the observation bench today's morning

Rosa 'Crown Princess Margareta' at the brick wall had been dead last month.  I dug it up and examined its reason.  Eventually I had found a larva of Anoplophora malasiaca ( 'Teppo-Mushi' in Japanese).  That is the most dreadful pest of roses in Japan.

Our friend in my town had given us herbaceous cuttings of four kinds of hydrangea, and we planted them in small pots today.  The picture below shows flowers and cuttings.

Hydrangea flowers were arranged with Rosa 'Angela'.  Vivid pink colour of the flowers brightens the atmosphere.

  1. How lucky you are to be able to look down and your garden and your new bench will be a lovely place to rest and watch below.
Such a shame that your Crown Princess Margareta rose was eaten by that nasty bug!
    Your new plants look lovely

    1. Thank you Dee,
I had been thinking which variety should I plant after Crown Princess Margareta, and I have decided to replant the same one. I love its beautiful colour and shape indeed.

    1. We are always watching base of rose stems to find fine chips made by larvae. But it is often difficult to find.
The died Rosa 'Crown Princess Margareta' was attacked under the mulch.
