A few montbretia (Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora) flowers are in bloom in our garden now. It is a hybrid of C. aurea and C. pottsii, first bred in 1880. We often find them under the trees on roadsides and in the meadow. It is said that it is invasive in the UK, New Zealand, the American Pacific Northwest etc.

ReplyDeleteI had some of this plant in a mixed border and it had to come out as it was crowding out an astrantia. I loved the bright orange flowers so have kept one piece in a pot! It looks beautiful in the meadow.
