RHODODENDRON WITH DARK RED LEAVES FOR BACKDROP OF DOGWOOD (サンゴミズキの背景に濃い色の葉のツツジ植栽)

Stems of dogwood show brilliant red and yellow colours in winter.
We grow it beyond the terraced herb beds. 

ドッグウッド（サンゴミズキ）は冬に鮮やかな赤や黄色の茎を見せます.

うちではハーブの段々畑の向こうに育てています.

I read an article about dogwood 

in the December issue of BBC 'Gardeners World' magazine. 

The contrast of red stems and dark foliage

of of the Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Tom Thumb' looked so beautiful.  

I looked for the plant on the internet, however, it seemed not available in Japan.

コントラストがとても素敵に見えました.

この植物をネットで探しましたが、日本では入手できないようでした.

So, I had been looking for other plants with dark leaves in winter, 

I found a young plants of rhododendron with dark colour foliage 

at a new-year-day sale (33% off) of a local nursery. 

Its price was reasonable, and I bought two plants. 

Rhododendron cv. 'Copper Ever' (Max height 1.5 meter)
赤葉ツツジ　カッパーエバー（最大樹高1.5メートル）

それで冬に濃い色の葉をもつ他の植物を探していましたが、

近くのナーセリーのお正月のセールで濃い色の葉をもつ赤葉ツツジを見つけました.

3割引セールで値段も手ごろで、2株買いました.

I cleaned the place where I planted them, 

and set two earth-retaining corrugated plastic sheets. 

I filled them with multi-purpose compost, and planted two plants. 

植えつける場所をきれいにして

プラスチック製の波板で土留めをして

培養土を入れて苗木を植えました.

I hope they grow well in a couple of years 

and show beautiful contrast of colours with dogwood. 

2年ほどでよく成長して
ドッグウッドとの美しいコントラストを見せてくれたらと思います.
