TORRENTIAL RAINS (豪雨)

There were torrential rains yesterday and this morning in Northern Kyusyu Island. 

We've had already more than 200 mm of rain in our garden since yesterday, 

and more than 400 mm of rain in some areas in Northern Kyushu. 

昨日から今朝にかけて北部九州では豪雨があり、

庭では昨日から200ミリ以上雨が降り、

北部九州では400ミリを超えている地域があります.

Our potager was covered with water because of the heavy rain. 

We found that the drain pipes of concrete blocks were clogged. 

Flooded water decreased after clearing pipes.

 ポタジェは大雨で冠水しました.

コンクリートブロックの排水パイプが詰まっているのがわかり、

パイプを掃除したらあふれた水はだいぶ減りました.

PRUNING ROSES IN SUMMER (夏のバラ剪定)

We pruned shrub roses in our gardens. 

Some roses were in bloom with some flower buds, however, most of them were cut. 

There was some rain, and it was cool. 

庭の木立バラの剪定をしました.

蕾があって花が咲いているバラもありましたが、ほとんど切りました.

雨がときどき降って、涼しかったです.

Many thin branches and leaves of a climbing rose 'Francois Juranville’ 

over the brick wall died in summer.  

So, we cut those branches. 

It was a hard job to prune it using a ladder, because it grew over 10 feet high. 

We are now planning to change plants over the brick wall. 

レンガ塀の上にあるつるバラのフランソワジュランビルの枝葉が
夏にたくさん枯れました.

それで、それらの枝も切りました.

3メートル以上の高さに育っていて、梯子をつかっての剪定作業は大変です.

レンガ塀の上の植物を変えようかとも検討中です.

COTTON FLOWERS (綿の花)

There was no damage to cotton plants beside Jerusalem artichoke by the last typhoon, and there are many flowers in bloom now.
Petals of cotton flowers are white when they open, and they become pink and do not open on the next day, and they fall on the third or forth day.
Life of cotton flowers are so short.
In 40 to 60 days, they become cotton bolls. 

この前の台風ではキクイモの横の綿は被害も無く、

今は花はたくさん花が咲いています.

花びらは最初は白ですが、翌日にはピンクになって開かず、

3、４日目には落ちてしまいます.

綿の花は短命です.

40日から60日ほどで綿の玉ができます.

PICKING PRUNE TO MAKE COMPOTE (プルーン収穫してコンポート作り)

There is a prune tree in the bluebell garden,
which is presumed to have grown from seed because we didn't plant it.
It had begun to bear fruits about five years ago,
and it bore more than 80 fruits this year.
We picked fruits and made compote. 

ブルーベルの庭にプルーンの木があります
植えた覚えはなく、自然に種から育ったようです
5年ほど前に実をつけだして
今年は80個以上つき、一部は
収穫してコンポートを作りました

Picking fruits using a special tool.
専用道具を使って収穫

A special tool was made with a fishing rod and a net.
専用道具は釣竿とネットで出来ています.

DWARF CRAPEMYRTLE BLOSSOMS AGAIN (矮性サルスベリ返り咲き)

Crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia indica) is a popular flowering tree
 of the summer in Japan.
It grows to a height of 20 feet, however,
dwarf varieties grow just about three feet. 

We grow purple dwarf crapemyrtle in a pot. 

It blossomed early July at first, 

and its branches were cut back after flowering. 

Now it is in full bloom again. 

We enjoy its beautiful purple flowers twice a year. 

サルスベリは日本では夏の花木として人気があります.
その樹高は通常6メートルほどですが、
矮性品種は1メートルほどです.

私たちの庭では矮性の紫色のサルスベリを鉢で育てていますが、

最初に七月の初めに花が咲きました.

花後に枝を切り戻し

今、また満開になっています.

美しい紫色の花を年に2回楽しんでいます.

It has a unique shape of petals.
変わった形の花びらです

In early July, it blossomed first.
七月初めに最初に開花

Now it is in bloom again in mid-August
そして今、八月中旬に返り咲いて

THE TYPHOON HAS GONE (台風が過ぎて)

The typhoon Krosa has gone and, 

fortunately, there were no serious damages in the gardens. 

台風号は通り過ぎましたが

幸い庭にひどい被害はありませんでした

The main garden was soaked.
庭はびしょぬれ

Rain made flowers of Rosa 'Pat Austin' drooped down.
パットオースチンは雨で枝垂れて

Tall stems of Jerusalem artichoke did not fall down.
高いキクイモの枝は倒れずに
