SELF-SOWN SEEDLINGS OF ECHIUM (エキウムの実生苗)
The seedlings of Echium candicans I found in February have grown well
and I planted one in the border, some were repotted in larger pots
and others were presented to gardening friends.
二月に見つけたこぼれ種からのエキウムの苗は順調に育ち
一つはボーダー花壇に植え付け、一部は大きなポットに植え替え、
残りは庭友さんたちにプレゼントしました.
In front of the arbour seat, I've found self-sown seedlings again last week.
More seedlings are expected to grow in winter,
and I think I can grow it continuously.
アーバーシートの前で先週、エキウムの実生苗をまた見つけました.
冬の間にもっと実生で育ってくることが期待され
持続的にエキウムを育てていけそうです.

WE'VE FOUND ANOTHER FRUIT OF KARIN (カリンの実をもう一個発見)
We picked a fruit of Chinese quince (Pseudocydonia sinensis, karin in Japanese) in the middle of October, cut it in small pieces,
soaked them in honey.
It is used as medicine for throat.

I thought it had born a single fruit this year.
Today I went to the bluebell garden, and looked up the Japanese maple tree
with coloured leaves, and I happened to find another yellow fruit.
Leaves had been hiding the fruit,
and now it has become visible because most of leaves had fallen.
I am pleased to find the fruit.
It has grown upward from a branch,
which is a unique character of this plant.
今年は実は一個だけだと思っていました.
今日、ブルーベルの庭に行って葉が色づいたモミジを見上げたときに、
たまたま黄色い実がもう一個ついているのを見つけました.
葉っぱに隠されていた実が、葉が散ってきて見えるようになったのです.
実は枝から上向きに大きくなっていて、
この植物のユニークな特徴を示しています.

2019 NURSERY CALENDAR (来年のナーセリーカレンダー)
Photos of our garden has appeared in a 2019 calendar of the local nursery.
One is on the front page, and another on a March and April page.
They send us one copy by mail.
近くのナーセリーの来年のカレンダーにうちの庭の写真が載りました.
一枚は表紙に、もう一枚は3月と4月のページに.
うちに一部、郵便で送られてきました.
We went to the nearest shop of the nursery,
and bought some young plants, including rose and Marguerite.
They presented us another copy of the calendar,
because they cost more than 3,000 yen.
This free gift promotion will last until around the new year's holiday.

BIG DIPPER IN THE SKY DIPS WATER OUT OF THE SEA (北斗七星が海から水汲み)
The bottom of the cup of Big Dipper in the sky touches on the sea
in the evening.
It looks like it is dipping water.
This phenomenon occurs at the north-facing seacoast, latitude of which is between 33°N and 34°N, and the north coast of our Kyushu Island meets this condition.

あたかも水を汲んでいるようです.
この現象は北に向いた海岸で緯度が北緯33から34度の地域でみられ、

VIVID-YELLOW FLOWERS OF LEOPARD PLANTS (鮮やかな黄色のツワブキの花)
Leopard plant (Farfugium japonicum, 'Tsuwabuki' in Japanese) is ever green and hardy in winter, and it is valuable in a desolate winter garden.
It is native in most of Japan.
It bears vivid-yellow flowers in autumn.
We never planted it, however, it grows here and there in our gardens.
Its flower is at its best now.
ツワブキは常緑で耐寒性があり、寂しい冬の庭では貴重です.
日本のほとんどの地域で自生し、
秋には鮮やかな黄色の花を咲かせます.
まったく植えたことはないのですが、庭のあちこちで育っていて
今が見ごろです.

COLOURED LEAVES OF JAPANESE MAPLE UNDER THE BLUE SKY (青空をバックにイロハモミジの紅葉)
It was sunny beautiful day today.
Coloured leaves of Japanese maple in the bluebell garden looked so stunning against the background of the azure sky.
Minimum temperature in the morning was 7.5C and maximum was 17.9C.
It was comfortable in the sun.
