HONEYSUCKLE HAS STARTED TO FLOWER (スイカズラが咲き始めました)
There is a honeysuckle arch at the top of the stairs from below. So when you go up to the Main Garden, you are surrounded y a sweet smell. Difficult to see the flowers from below, so it's hard to tell what they smell like straight away. Whatever it is, it smells really sweet and nice.
下からの階段の一番上にスイカズラのアーチがあります。それで、メインガーデンに上がる瞬間に甘い香りに包まれます。下からは見えにくいので、すぐには何の香りか分かりません。何にしても、いい香りがするのです。

WONDERFUL PINK MARY ROSE (素晴らしいピンクのメアリーローズ)
The roses have started to bloom a little earlier than usual. On the sleeper steps in the garden, the Mary Rose has beautiful pink flowers. It is a David Austin rose, with a beautiful peony-like appearance and a pleasant fragrance.
例年より少し早くバラが咲き始めています. 庭の枕木の階段ではメアリーローズが美しいピンクの花を咲かせています. デビッドオースチンのバラで、シャクヤクの花に似た美しい姿と、良い香りが特徴です.

CONTROL OF THE WORST PEST OF ROSES: METHOD AND RESULT (最悪の害虫、バラクキバチ対策と結果)
A new trial against the rose pest, the Syrista similis, was described in a previous article, and now, more than three weeks later, we summarise its effectiveness and shortcomings in this issue.
バラの害虫、バラクキバチに対する新しい対策の試みについては以前の記事で紹介しましたが、あれから3週間余り経過して、その有効性や欠点などについて今回はまとめてみます.
The total number of shoots affected by the pest during this period was 94, of which 83 were not treated and 11 were treated.
The total number of shoots not treated was not counted, so the percentage of damage is not known, but it was thought to be quite high.
In contrast, 3.9% of the new shoots where measures were taken were damaged. The damage was 3.0% on vinyl and 5.6% on newspaper, with slightly more damage on shoots covered with newspaper. Many of the damaged shoots had the top edge of the cover wide open.
Disadvantages of covering shoots included deformation of some leaves, but there were no major problems.

この期間にこの害虫の被害を受けた新梢の数は合計94本で、対策をしていない枝が83本、対策を実施していた枝が11本でした.
対策をしていない新梢の全体数は数えていないので、被害の割合は不明ですが、かなり高いと思われました.
これに対して、対策を実施した新梢では被害は3.9％でした. ビニールが3.0％、新聞紙が5.6％で、やや新聞紙で覆った枝の被害が多かったようです. 被害にあった新梢の多くは覆いの上の端が広く開いていたものが多くみられました.
新梢を覆うことでの欠点としては、一部の葉の変形などがみられましたが、大きな問題はありませんでした.

POTAGER IN LATE APRIL (四月下旬のポタジェ)
The Potager garden is now flourishing at the end of April. The poppies and foxgloves are starting to flower and the rosebuds are swelling. The raised beds near the entrance have a meadow garden style this year, with several different types of flowers growing together. In the raised beds at the back, the asparagus is growing large and will soon form a bush.
ポタジェの庭も四月の下旬になり、ずいぶん華やいできました. ポピーやジギタリスが咲き始めて、バラの蕾も膨らんできています. 入り口近くのレイズドベッドは今年はメドーガーデン風に何種類かの花を一緒に育てています. 奥のレイズドベッドではアスパラガスが大きく育ってきて、間もなく茂みをつくります.
