HARVESTING VEGS IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェで野菜の収穫)

We harvested vegs this afternoon:  

Stem broccoli, kohlrabi, parsnip, sweet pepper, Swiss chard and leaf lettuce.  

今日は午後から野菜の収穫、

ブロッコリー、コールラビ、パースニップ、パプリカ、スイスチャード、リーフレタス

The buds of the head of stem broccoli have grown large, firm and tight.

ブロッコリーのつぼみ部分は大きく、硬く、しっかりしています

  

Side-shoots of another broccoli are developing after the main head had been harvested, 

and some flowers has started to bloom (yellow colour beginning to peek through).  

We hope to harvest side-shoots for a while.  

もうひとつのブロッコリーは最初の収穫のあとわき芽がまた成長してきて収穫、
ちょっと花も咲き始めています（黄色い色のところです）
しばらくわき芽からの収穫を期待してます。

The largest purple kohlrabi has grown now about tennis-ball size
and it's time to harvest. 

一番大きくなった紫色のコールラビはちょうどテニスボールサイズで、収穫の時です。

Green leaves of parsnip have grown thick, and its root looked large enough,

therefore, I pulled one of them.  

Unfortunately, its root is short and we are disappointed.  

パースニップは緑の葉がしっかり茂って、根も大きくなったように見えたので

思い切ってひとつ引き抜きました

が、とても短くて残念！

My wife cooked the vegs and we enjoyed them this evening.  

家内が今日の野菜を料理してくれて、夕食においしくいただきました。

Boiled broccoli and chard, baked kohlrabi, and parsnip in soup.

BACK HOME FROM UK

We visited Britain from last week, and came back home this afternoon.
We lost no time in getting to work in our garden; collecting fallen leaves, exterminating insect pests, and harvesting fruits and vegetables.

Though there was no rainfall during our absence, every plants in flowerpots and containers were OK thanks to our neighbours

Ducks welcomed us with full bloom of Tsuwabuki (Farfugium japonicum)

We harvested persimmons, tomatoes, sweet peppers and rose hips with Rosa 'Scarborough Fair'

AGAPANTHUS & E.T.?

Today we divided agapanthus.  This is the second time since we planted it seven years ago.
It flowers so well in June every year.  We can expect much more flowers by separating.

When I weeded white lily and campanula bed, I found something that looks like somebody...

Yes, it's E.T.!　　But what the hell is that??
It turned out to be seeds of red lycoris.

In the kitchen garden, sweet peppers are changing their color from green to red or yellow.

Leaves of cherry are falling everyday, and Marple often sweeps them up.

When we had almost finished today's gardening, we heard a loud noise of a helicopter, and noticed that it's a helicopter emergency medical service (ドクターヘリ).  The helicopter landed on a parking field of a fishing port (rendezvous point), where an ambulance was waiting for the helicopter, which took a patient to a emergency hospital.  I wish the patient was saved.

The helicopter is flying away toward Fukuoka city.

VEGETABLES IN OUR POTAGER

Temperature drops under 20 degrees Celsius in the morning and evening these days.  Today, I write about our potager now.

We can still harvest mini tomatoes, and the standard rose 'Mary rose' has flowers with them.  Sweet peppers are becoming bigger, and Perilla has begun to flower.

Seed potatoes, radish and comatsuna shows young leaves in pentagonal beds.  In the cold frame, young asparagus (left) and California poppy (right) are growing for the next year.
