Chinese violet cress blooms here and there in the garden from March to April. It self-seeds and grows every year, producing beautiful purple flowers. The bright green leaves are lovely too. On fine days, several bees fly in to feed on the nectar.
オオアラセイトウは3月から4月に庭のあちこちで咲きます。こぼれ種で毎年育ってきれいな紫色の花を咲かせます。葉の明るい緑色もきれいです。お天気の良い日はミツバチが何匹も飛んできて蜜を吸っています。
On the slope between the main garden and the potager there used to be a large wild cherry tree with white flowers. It used to bloom very beautifully every year, but died a few years ago.
This wild cherry tree was dropping a lot of berries onto the potager below. And there were small seedlings growing here and there in the raised beds. I grew them in pots and planted one of them next to the lower entrance to the garden a few years ago.
And this year it produced a lot of flowers. After 20 years, it will grow into a magnificent wild cherry tree with magnificent flowers.
メインガーデンとポタジェの間の斜面にはかつて、白い花をつける大きな山桜の木がありました。毎年とても美しく咲いていましたが、数年前に枯れてしまいました。
この山桜はたくさんの実を下のポタジェに落としていました。そしてレイズドベッドのあちこちに実生の小さな苗が育っていました。それを鉢植えにして育てて、庭の下の入り口の横に植え付けたのが数年前です。
そして今年、たくさんの花をつけました。親木に似た白い花です。20年も経てば、立派な山桜に木に成長して見事な花を咲かせてくれるでしょう。

Chinese violet cress (Orychophragmus violaceu) is a hardy annual of Brassicaceae introduced from China in the Edo period.
It produces beautiful blue-purple flowers in early spring, which spread all over the area to form a beautiful carpet, making it a spectacular sight.
We saw many of these flowers blooming in a neighbour's vacant lot, so we took the seeds and grew seedlings to grow in our garden.
It is an easy plant to grow because it spreads easily by spilling seeds.
