PLUMS, TOMATOES, AND FLOWERS OF SUMMER (スモモ、トマト、夏の花)

An early variety of plum 'Ooishi wase' is ripening now, 

and we are enjoying its sour-sweet flavor. 

早生の品種のスモモ「大石早生」が今熟してきて

甘酸っぱい味を楽しんでいます.

In the potager, summer vegs, cucumber and tomato, are growing

and a dwarf type 'Pinnochio' bears clusters of tomatoes, some of which are ripening. 

Dahlia has started to bloom and courgette bears yellow fruits in other beds.

ポタジェでは夏野菜のキュウリとトマトが育っていて

矮性のトマト「ピノキオ」が房なりの実をつけて、いくつか熟してきています.

別の区画ではダリアが咲き始め、ズッキーニも黄色い実をつけています.

In the border, yellow flowers of dusty miller are in bloom now, 

and trumpet vine (Campsis radicans) has started to bloom its pure red flowers.

ボーダーではシロタエギクの黄色い花が今咲いていて

アメリカノウゼンカズラが真っ赤な花を咲かせ始めました.

BEAUTIFUL HOLIDAY (素晴らしい休日）

Today is a national holiday.
We spent most of day time in our garden.
Plum is in full bloom and the sky and the sea was beautifully blue. 

今日は国民の休日
一日の大半を庭で過ごしました.
スモモは満開、空や海はとても美しいブルーでした.

We read latest issues of Japanese and English gardening magazines at the gazebo.
日本と英国の園芸雑誌の最新号をガゼボで呼んですごしました.

I finished the patio in front of the gazebo.
Natural grass was converted to artificial one in order to easily manage.
Concrete basis was covered with artificial turf.

ガゼボの前のパティオを完成しました.
天然芝を人工に変えて、日ごろの管理を楽にするためです.
コンクリートの基礎の上に人工芝を設置しました.

PLUM FLOWERS (スモモの花)

Two plum trees are in bloom now.
This is the indication of real spring in our garden.  

日本のスモモの木が今花を咲かせています.
スモモの花は私たちの庭に本格的な春の訪れを告げます.

We planted two different varieties of plum a decade ago, 

and they bear a good crop every two years

(and this year is it).

10年前に二つの品種を植えつけ、

隔年で豊作です.

（そして今年がその年）

My wife is doing hand-pollination as usual by using a little fluffy thing 

of an ear cleaner fixed at the end of a long stick. 

家内はいつものように長い棒の先につけた耳かきの綿毛をつかって

受粉作業をしています.

We are expecting a good crop this year.

今年の豊作を期待しています.

GARDEN PLANTS COMING INTO BUD (庭では一斉に芽が吹き出して)

Though it's still cold and cloudy with some rain these days,
many garden trees and shrubs are coming into bud in our garden.


まだまだ寒くて曇りがちで雨も時々降る天気ですが、
庭の木々は一斉に芽を出してきています.



The first tree flower in March in our garden is plum flowers,
and flower buds are almost opening today. 

3月に最初に花を咲かせる木はスモモで、
花の蕾が今にも開きそうです.

And, the second is blueberry.

All leaves had fallen in February at last, 

and their flower buds is swelling, some fresh leaves emerging. 

二番目はブルーベリーで

2月にはやっと葉が全部散って、

花芽が膨らんできて葉も少し伸びてきています.

Other plants, such as hydrangea, clematis and euphorbia are growing their fresh leaves, 

and this is an opening of the new season of our gardening. 

他の植物、アジサイやクレマチス、ユーフォルビアなども新緑が伸びてきて、

いよいよ私たちのガーデニングの新しいシーズンも始まります.

TRANSPLANTED HOSTAS (ギボウシの移植)

We planted four varieties of hosta beyond the plum trees several years ago 

and they have considerably grown, however, we can't see them 

because hellebore and spider plant grow ahead of them.  

So, we decided to transplant them to the front.

スモモの木の向こうに数年前に4種類のギボウシを植えました。

かなり大きく育ちましたが、その手前にクリスマスローズやオリヅルランが育って

よく見えないので、手前に植えなおすことにしました。

Oxalis purpurea alba has started to grow in the front of the border.  

The oxalis continues to flower from October to March
and brighten the winter garden.  

オキザリスが一番前列で葉をだしてきました。

この種類は10月から3月まで咲き続け、冬の庭を明るくしてくれます。

PLUM JAM (スモモのジャム)

Today, Marple made plum jam.  About 1,100g jam from 1,400g plums without seeds.



（今日、マープルはスモモのジャムを作りました。種を除いた1.4キロから1.1キロのジャムができました。）

I made new labels and put them on jam jars.


（私は新しいラベルを作ってジャムの瓶に貼りました。）

SWEET-AND-SOUR PLUMS (甘酸っぱいスモモ)

The season of plum has come again this year.  Some of plums 'Oh-ishi Wase' has ripened, and we harvested 11 plumb yesterday and 27 today.  It tastes sweet-and-sour, and weighs about 35g each.


（今年もスモモの季節がやってきました。大石早生が少しずつ熟し始めて、昨日11個、今日は27個収穫しました。甘酸っぱい味で、一個約35グラムほどあります。）

PLUMS & CHERRIES (スモモとサクランボ)

Fruits of plum are growing now in our garden.  We have two varieties, that is  'Oh-ishi Wase' and 'Santa Rosa', and the former variety bears more fruits than the latter, this year.  We will harvest them in three weeks.


（我が家の庭ではスモモの実が大きくなってきています。2つの品種を植えています。大石早生とサンタローザです。今年は大石早生がサンタローザよりたくさん実をつけています。あと3週間ぐらいで収穫です。）

These photos below shows fruits of a wild cherry, which are small and inedible.  Almost ten thousand cherries have been falling for several weeks on the potager and we have to sweep them every day.  Its flowers are stunning, however, it is a nuisance when its fruits fall.

（下の写真は山桜の実です。小さくて食べられません。たぶん一万個ぐらいのこの小さなサクランボがここ数週間にわたってポタジェに落ちてきていて、毎日掃除しています。花は素晴らしいですが、実が落ちる時期はちょっと迷惑です。）
