TERRACED HERB BEDS IN LATE MAY (五月下旬のハーブの段々畑)

 

A variety of herbs are growing in the terraced herb beds. Rose geraniums, cherry sage and Salvia guaranitica are currently in bloom. Bees and hawk moths come to the flowers to feed on their nectar.  A little pruning is needed to improve air circulation before the rainy season begins.

ハーブの段々畑ではいろいろなハーブ類が育っています。ローズゼラニウムやチェリーセージ、サルビアガラニチカの花が咲いています。花にはミツバチやスズメガなどが蜜を吸いにやってきています。梅雨に入る前に風通しを良くするために、少し選定作業が必要です。

TERRACED HERB BEDS AND JASMINE (ハーブの段々畑とジャスミン)

 

Spring is now in full swing, and the terraced herb beds are bustling with lush herbs and flowers. Along the fence above, the Jasminum polyanthum is in bloom, filling the garden with its sweet fragrance.

春本番でハーブの段々畑もハーブや草花が茂ってきてにぎやかです。その上にあるフェンスではハゴロモジャスミンが咲いて甘い香りが庭に漂っています。

TERRACED HERB BEDS IN EARLY JUNE (六月初めのハーブの段々畑)

 

Herbs such as rosemary, lavender and mint are growing thick in the barb beds. Cherry sage has red flowers and rose geraniums are beginning to bloom with pink flowers. We are finally entering the rainy season and a hot and humid summer.

バーブ畑ではローズマリー、ラベンダー、ミントなどのハーブたちが茂ってきています。チェリーセージは赤い花をつけ、ローズゼラニウムもピンクの花が咲き始めています。いよいよ梅雨の季節に入り、蒸し暑い夏がやってきています。

HERB BEDS IN JUNE (六月のハーブ畑)

 

In the herb terraces, the chamomile that bloomed so beautifully in spring is gone, and now the rose geraniums (pink flowers) and cherry sage (red flowers) continue to bloom, plus the lavender has started to produce blue flowers.

The rainy season is just around the corner and the herbs need to be cut back to cope with the high temperatures and humidity.

ハーブの段々畑では春に美しく咲いたカモミールはなくなり、今はローズゼラニウム（ピンクの花）とチェリーセージ（赤い花）に加えて、ラベンダーが青い花を咲かせ始めました。

梅雨入り間近で、ハーブたちも切り戻しなどして高温と湿度の対策をそろそろ必要です。

TERRACED HERB BEDS NOW (ハーブの段々畑の今)

 

The terraced herb beds in the main garden is now bustling with activity. In the foreground are mint and rose geraniums, and the rose geraniums are beginning to flower. Up above, the lavender has not yet flowered, but the silver-tinged leaves are beautiful. German chamomile is beautiful with lots of flowers. The borage still has lots of flowers and bumblebees are always flying in.

メインガーデンのハーブの段々畑は今にぎやかです。手前にはミントとローズゼラニウムが茂り、ローズゼラニウムは花が開き始めています。上の方ではラベンダーはまだ花は咲いていませんがシルバーがかった葉色が綺麗です。ジャーマンカモミールがたくさん咲いて綺麗です。ボリジもまだ花がたくさんあって、ハナバチがいつも飛んできています。

LAVENDER IS BLOOMING (ラベンダーが咲いています)

 

Lavender flowers have started to bloom in the herb garden. As the rainy season is about to start, I will cut the flowers soon. 

The cherry sage continues to flower. The rose geraniums have few flowers but smell very nice. I cut the mint short for the rainy season. 

ハーブ畑でラベンダーの花が咲き始めました. 梅雨に入りそうなので、早めに切り花にしようかと思います. 

チェリーセージは花を咲かせ続けています. ローズゼラニウムは花は少ないけど、とてもいい香りがします. ミントは梅雨に向けて、短く切りました.

FLOWERS AND HERBS IN THE MAIN GARDEN AT DUSK (夕暮れ時の主庭の花とハーブたち)

 

The central flower bed in the centre of the main garden is a mixture of roses, perennials and annuals. It is located just outside the garden room window and overlooks the herb terraces beyond. The herbs are now growing and flourishing in addition to the flowers that have been blooming since spring. The mixture of different coloured foliage looks beautiful. 

メインガーデンの中心部にある中央花壇はバラや多年草、一年草などを混植しています. ガーデンルームの窓のすぐ外にあり、さらにその向こうにはハーブの段々畑が見通せます. 今は春から咲いている花たちに加えて、ハーブも育ってきて、にぎやかになっています. さまざまな色の葉々が混在するのも美しくみえます.

SMALL FLOWERS IN AUGUST (八月の小さな花たち)

 

It's been a hot day, but this morning it's a bit cooler and we can feel the seasons changing a bit.

In the garden there are some small flowers in bloom.

The mint is a lovely white flower.

暑い日が続いていますが、今朝は少し涼しくて、季節の移ろいを少し感じます. 

庭では小さな花たちが咲いています. 

ミントは可憐な白い花です. 

The cherry sage has been flowering all year with bright red flowers.

チェリーセージは真っ赤な花をずっと咲かせています. 

The coleus has beautiful pale purple flowers that contrast with the loud colour of the leaves.

コリウスは派手な葉の色とは対照的な薄紫のきれいな花をつけています.

TERRACED HERB BED IN SEPTEMBER (九月のハーブ段々畑)

Plants in the terraced beds were trimmed this week.

段々畑の植物は今週剪定をしました.

It is queer that cherry sage didn't flower this season, however, I found several flower buds when I trimmed it.
今年はまだチェリーセージが花をつけないのは変ですが、枝を整えた際にいくつか花のつぼみをみつけました.

Mint was cut about a half, and its smell refreshed me.
ミントは半分に切り、香りで爽やかになりました.

Lavender was also trimmed.  Lavender in the potager died because of too much rain and boiling heat of this summer.
ラベンダーも剪定しました. ポタジェのラベンダーはこの夏の大雨と酷暑で枯れました。
