Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

AN APPLE TART（りんごのタルト）

Most of the apples on the arch of the potager are ripening,
and we pick ripened apples every other day.

ポタジェのアーチではリンゴが熟してきて
2日に1度ほど収穫します.

Today my wife made an apple tart,
and I ate a piece of tart after work.
It contained some raisin and blueberry,
and tasted so goood!

今日は家内がリンゴのタルトを作っていて
仕事のあと、ひと切れ頂きました.
レーズンとブルーベリーが入っていて
と～ってもおいしかったです.

BLUEBERRY TART AND PIE (ブルーベリータルトとパイ)

We have already harvest blueberries sufficiently. Marple made three small-sized tarts and a pie.
We had a family reunion and brought them to share. It was a wonderful time and we really enjoyed it.

（今年もたくさんブルーベリーを収穫できました。家内は小さなタルトを3個と、パイを一つ焼きました。親戚の集まりに持って行って、おすそ分け。とても楽しい時間でした。）

APPLE & BLUEBERRY TART UNION JACK

We harvested miniature apples (Alpine maiden アルプス乙女）today, and tried to make an apple tart.

They are small and stained.

They became clean by scrubbing with a kitchen sponge.

They were peeled except some red skin, and boiled for a short time with lemon and sugar.

Scotland has voted to stay in the United Kingdom after voters decisively rejected independence last Thursday. We thought of an idea of making a Union Jack apple and blueberry tart.

Apple and blueberry are arranged on a pastry base making a Union Jack pattern.

It was baked in an electric oven.

This is a Union-Jack-design apple and blueberry tart.

Does it look like the Union Jack? Hmm..... But it tasted good!!

Growing fruits

We have several kinds of fruit trees in the garden. The fruits including crab apple, grape, blueberry, fig, persimmon, pomegranate and 'rose hip'.

Crab apples 'Arupus-Otome'

This grape vine 'Kyoho' is very popular in Japan. The size of fruit is large and it tastes very sweet.

We have six rabit-eye blueberry trees. Last year we harvested 16 kilogrammes from July to September. My wife MARPLE made a lot of jam, and a tart. We are looking forward to harvesting.
