Cuphea is a shrub native to Central and South America. It is tolerant of summer heat and flowers from summer to autumn. Cuphea is compact in size with a height of 40 to 50 cm. Small pink flowers bloom all the way through. It is semi-hardy and we prune shortly in winter.

The rain lily, the flower that heralds the arrival of autumn, have started to bloom in our garden. Last weekend we had the first autumn air, with cool mornings and evenings and brisk heat during the day.
The rain lily is bulbous plant, and planted in pots, usually placed behind the fence, but at this time of year it takes centre stage in front of the fence. I put it next to the cuphea, which has been flowering since the summer.
