BLUE FLOWERS IN OUR GARDEN (庭の青い花々)

 

Today I'd like to introduce you to the blue flowers in our garden.  Even now, in March, there are a dozen of varieties of blue flowers in bloom.  Some are annuals, some are perennials, some are bulbs.  

今日は庭の青い花を紹介しましょう. 三月の今の時期でもおよそ十種類あまりの青い花が咲いています. 一年草もあれば多年草、球根植物もあります. 

Ajuga decumbens is a wild variety and native to Japan
キランソウは野草で日本原産です

We grow Echium vulgare for the first time in our garden. 
エキウムブルガレ（または シベナガムラサキ）を庭で初めて育てています.

Forget-me-not is native to Europe and is perennial.  However it dies in hot summer in Japan.  So it is treated as an annual plant. It grows on spilled seeds. 
ワスレナグサはヨーロッパ原産の多年草です. しかし、日本では暑い夏に枯れてしまうので一年草として扱われます. こぼれ種で育ちます.

Borage（ボリジ）

Chinese violet cress is native to China.  It was imported in the Edo period and has gone wild.
オオアラセイトウは中国原産で、江戸時代に輸入されて、野生化しています. 

Nemophila（ネモフィラ）

Brachycome（ブラキカム）

　Periwinkle is native to the western Mediterranean. It is an evergreen perennial, frequently used in cultivation as groundcover.
ツルニチニチソウは地中海西部の原産で、常緑多年草です. グランドカバーによく使われます.

SNOW-COVERED GARDEN (雪化粧の庭)

 

The cold wave has arrived and the snow keeps falling!

The garden is now covered with snow.

寒波が到来して雪が降り続いています.

庭は雪化粧です.   

Snow covered a miniature staddle stone. 

ミニチュアの鞍石に雪が積もっています.

Flowers were covered in snow, too. 

花たちにも雪が積もっています.

Kumquat fruits are slowly ripening in the cold weather. 

キンカンは寒さの中でゆっくり熟しています.

FLOWERS IN THE FLOWER BED (花壇の花々)

 

It is a cold winter this season.  There are some flowers in the central bed, such as forget-me-not, viola and Chrysanthemum 'North Pole'. They continue to flower until early summer when we open our garden to public.  

今年は寒い冬です. 中央花壇には何種類か花が咲いています. 例えば、ワスレナグサやビオラ、そしてノースポールです. どれもオープンガーデンの初夏まで咲き続けます.

FORGET-ME-NOT AND PINKS BESIDE THE PATH (園路脇に咲くワスレナグサとナデシコ)

Light blue tiny flowers of forget-me-not are 

one of our favourite spring flower in our garden. 

It flowers between the central flower bed and a slate path

with white, pink and red pinks. 

Pinks bear flowers in almost every season even in mid-winter. 

Pink is a symbol of modest Japanese women. 

There is a Japanese term 'Yamato-Nadeshiko', in which Yamato means Japanese and Nadeshiko means pink. 

My wife used to be a Yamato-Nadeshiko :)

ワスレナグサの水色の小さな花は春の庭のお気に入りお花の一つです.

中央花壇と園路の間に白やピンク、赤のナデシコと一緒に咲いています. 

ナデシコは一年中、時には真冬でさえも咲いています.

ナデシコは奥ゆかしい日本女性のシンボルで、

大和撫子という言葉もあります.

うちの家内もかつては大和撫子でした（笑）

SMALL FLOWERS BESIDE THE RAISED BED (花壇脇の可愛い花たち)

In front of the gazebo, there is a central raised bed. 

It is made of brick and entirely covered with ivy. 

Beside the bed, small flowers are blooming. 

They include forget-me-not, pink (Dianthus) and purple-black-leaf salvia.  

ガゼボの正面に中央花壇があります.

レンガ造りで完全にツタで覆われています.

その横に小さな花々が咲いています. 

それは、ワスレナグサ、ナデシコ、そして紫黒色の葉のサルビアです.

That is a self-seeded salvia, and the original one grows in the raised bed.
あれはこぼれ種から育ったもので、もともとは花壇で育つこのサルビアです.

This has a longer flower spike.
Its name is Salvia lyrata ‘Purple Knockout’
Its colour is quite ornamental.
これは長い花穂をもっています.
植物名はサルビア・リラータ「パープル・ノックアウト」です.
その葉はとてもオーナメンタルです.
