The blueberry harvest, which began in late June, is now drawing to a close. This time, I picked just over 200 grams. The yield is lower this year than last. One of the reasons is that one of the bushes has died. As it’s currently the height of the summer heat, the lower yield has actually been a relief in some respects. Because of the heat, I’ve decided to wait until it cools down a bit before making jam, so I’ve actually been freezing the berries for now.
６月下旬から始まったブルーベリーの収穫はそろそろ終わりです。今回は２００グラム余でした。今年は昨年より収量が減りました。一本木が枯れたのも原因です。ちょうど暑さが厳しい時期なので、収量は減ってくれて助かったところもあります。暑いのでジャムづくりは涼しくなってからと思い、実は冷凍しています。

返信削除My blueberries have been good this year, despite the high temperatures and drought we have had here. I am eating some every day, with breakfast and also with yogurt. I still have some in the freezer from last year so these will get added to apple crumble once we get into autumn. I am sorry to hear one of your bushes has died. I think I need to re-pot my bushes soon.

削除It’s been a while. I hope you’re well. Thank you for your comment. Here in Fukuoka Prefecture, in western Japan where we live, we’ve had a run of days at around 35°C for the past six weeks or so. There’s been no rain, and the ground is completely parched and cracked. We’ve been watering the garden every single day without fail. I’m thinking of making some blueberry jam when autumn comes.
