VISITING BIRD IN THE GARDEN AFTER RAIN (雨のあと、庭にシロハラ)
After the rain, when the garden was a little drier, the pale thrust (Turdus pallidus), which often come to the garden during the winter months, appeared. The pale thrust is a slightly larger bird that walks around on the ground, pecking here and there, looking for food. The areas where they peck are a little messy and easily recognisable.
It was a little wary on the sleepers, but pecked here and there in the peony beds.
This is a bird that will be gone before you know it when spring arrives.
雨が上がって庭が少し乾いてきたとき、冬の間よく庭に来るシロハラがやってきました. シロハラは少し大きめの小鳥で、地面を歩き回ってあちこち突いて餌をさがします. シロハラが突いたところは少し散らかっていて、すぐに分かります.
枕木の上では少し警戒していましたが、ピオニーの花壇ではあちこち突いていました.
春が来るといつのまにか居なくなる鳥です.

WINTER IS FINALLY HERE (ついに冬が来た)
The weather had been warm until last week, but this week, after the rain on Monday, a cold air mass came down from the north and it suddenly became as cold as winter.
Even during the daytime, the temperature was only just over 10 degrees Celsius, and with no sunshine and strong wind, it felt really cold.
Our town, located on the northern coast of Kyushu Island, has a lot of cloudy weather in winter, which is a little depressing.
A couple who lives nearby goes to the Kanto region (near Tokyo) only during the winter. I would like to do so if I could. I wish I could do that, but I can't, because I have many gardening jobs in winter.
先週まで暖かい日が続いていましたが、今週になって月曜日の雨を境に寒気団が北から降りてきて、一気に冬のような寒さになりました。
日中も気温は10℃あまりしかなく、日差しがなく風が強いと本当に寒く感じます。
九州の北岸にある私たちの町は冬は曇りがちの天気が多くて少し憂鬱です。
近くに住むご夫婦は冬の間だけ関東地方に行かれます。できるならそうしたいところです。でも冬には冬の大事な庭仕事もあるので、そういうわけにも行きません。

BULBUL EATING BERRIES (木の実を食べるヒヨドリ)
Brown-eared bulbuls come and eat black berries of Mame-tsuge (Ilex crenata 'Convexa') these days in our garden. Brown-eared bubuls are resident birds and love nectar and berries. They were eating red berries of the Christmas Holly until recently but they ate them up.
ヒヨドリが最近庭に来てマメツゲの黒い実を食べています. ヒヨドリは留鳥で、蜜や木の実が好物です。先日まではクリスマスホリーの赤い実を食べていましたが、食べ尽くしていました.
After eating the berries, it perched on the branches to rest.
実を食べた後、木の枝にとまって休憩です.

Many little birds visited our garden this morning.

SWEET AND SOUR PLUM FRUITS AND GROWING JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE (甘酸っぱいスモモと大きく育つキクイモ)
Prum 'Ooish-wase' fruits are ripening and turning red.
This variety is good for eating raw.
Its balance of sweetness sourness is so good.
This was the first harvest of this season, about 30 fruits,
and we ate some fruits straightaway in the garden.

I spent a quiet morning in the gazebo, and found that Jerusalem artichoke has grown well at the edge of the path leading to the new garden.
We'll harvest it in late autumn.

It is one of the best bird singers in Japan.
