From the balcony jutting out over the potager, which lies one level below the main garden, you can see not only the potager below but also the bluebell garden and the brick wall of the main garden. Whilst some plants are withering in the garden due to the persistent heatwave and drought, there are also plenty that are thriving.
メインガーデンから一段下にあるポタジェへ張り出すバルコニーからは下のポタジェだけでなく、ブルーベルの庭やメインガーデンのレンガ塀も見えます。猛暑と干ばつが続く庭では枯れる植物もありますが、元気で育っている植物もたくさんあります。
Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) is a sweet-smelling flowering vine. It is native to the mountains of Japan. It is attracted to the arch at the top of the steps leading up to the main garden. The moment you walk up the steps into the main garden, you are enveloped by a wonderful fragrance.
スイカズラは甘い香りのする花を咲かせるツル性植物です。日本の山に自生しています。メインガーデンに上がる階段の一番上にあるアーチに誘引しています。階段を上がってメインガーデンに入る瞬間にすばらしい香りに包まれます。

There is a honeysuckle arch at the top of the stairs from below. So when you go up to the Main Garden, you are surrounded y a sweet smell. Difficult to see the flowers from below, so it's hard to tell what they smell like straight away. Whatever it is, it smells really sweet and nice.
下からの階段の一番上にスイカズラのアーチがあります。それで、メインガーデンに上がる瞬間に甘い香りに包まれます。下からは見えにくいので、すぐには何の香りか分かりません。何にしても、いい香りがするのです。
Fern-leaf lavender blooms repeatedly in all seasons except summer. It has beautiful purple flowers, but unfortunately has little fragrance. I grow it in a planter on my deck by the railing.
レースラベンダーは夏を除く季節に繰り返し咲きます. 紫色の美しい花ですが、残念ながら香りはほとんどありません. デッキの手すりの所でプランターに植えて育てています.
The Japanese honeysuckle is a strongly fragrant vine that blooms during the rose season. Its flowers are white at the beginning of flowering and then turn yellow. In our garden we have an archway at the top of the steps from the lower entrance to the main garden. When the honeysuckle is in flower, you can smell its sweet fragrance as you walk through the archway.
スイカズラはバラのシーズンに咲く、強い芳香をもったつる性植物です. その花は咲き始めは白くて、そのあと黄色く色づきます. 私たちの庭では庭の下の入り口からメインガーデンに上がる階段の一番上のところにアーチを作って誘引しています. 花が咲いてくると、このスイカズラのアーチをくぐるときに甘い香りに包まれます.

In our garden we have honeysuckle growing in two arches. One is next to the white fence near the entrance at the top of the garden. It has started to bloom with a pink rose 'Mortimer Sackler' right next to it.
The sweet scent of honeysuckle is soothing as I walk by.
The variety 'Lonicera japonica' is one that grows commonly in the wild in Japan. The buds are slightly pinkish, white at the beginning of blooming, and then gradually turn yellow.
庭ではスイカズラを2か所のアーチで育てています. 一か所は庭の上の入り口近くの白いフェンスの横です. すぐ横にあるモーティマーサックラーと一緒に咲き始めました.
横を通るときに、スイカズラの甘い香りでふっとなごみます.
品種は日本の野山に普通に生えているものです. 蕾はわずかにピンク色がかっていて、咲き始めは白色、そのあと段々黄色になっていきます.
