My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc.
In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.
It has been a long time since I visited the website of an antique shop where I did some shopping. This is the shop where I bought the arched stained glass windows that were fitted into the back of the arbour seat.
And I found some nice etched glass . It seems to be engraved with the name of ale beer. I checked online and found that an ale called Gilmour's Windsor Ales was made in England in the first half of the 20th century. It was probably made as window glass for pubs. Windsor Castle can be seen in the centre.
I ordered it immediately, and it was delivered within a few days, securely packaged.

When we placed it in the garden room, we decided not to install it in the window next to the entrance, which we had originally intended, because the glass was a little too wide and the frosted glass made it difficult to see out.
So we decided to install it on the wall of the room.
The etched text and pictures are difficult to see when simply placed on the wall, so we decided to give it a twist... The idea was to make it look as if you were looking through a window at the scenery outside. We ran a simulation using photo editing software to see if it would work.
It looked like it would work, so I ordered an LED strip lights and a night picture of a London town.
First, we installed the strip light on the inside of the back of the window frame .
Next, the picture was put up on the wall.
Finally, the windows were mounted on the wall.
At night, when the lights were switched on, it was like looking out of a pub window onto a London street at night. We spent a relaxing evening drinking London Pride.
In the morning, when the sun is shining brightly, the stained glass in the garden room looks even more beautiful with the reflected light from the sea.
The stained glass window on the right was installed in the gazebo window before the garden room was built, and was made in England in the 1930s. The size of the window was chosen to match the size of the stained glass, thus preserving the atmosphere of the gazebo.
The window on the left was an ordinary window, but it is a fake stained-glass window made recently using a film to decorate the window in the style of stained glass.
Originally, I had built a gazebo with a retractable awning on the deck at the back of where the garden room now stands. An antique stained glass window was placed in the centre of the front. In good weather, we used to sit here to enjoy tea or to read. We also had a chance to see the cherry blossoms lit up at night.
I bought this film at the British Fair held at the Hakata Hankyu department store this year. The window looked a bit bare even with this film, so I designed it to match the style of the antique stained glass window on the right, and bought another type of film to put on the window to create a stained-glass style window.
The cut films were arranged on a piece of cardboard the same size as the window pane.
I used rubber sponge strips instead of lead came.
Blue styrene board cut into the shape of a Gothic arch, then painted dark blue and placed in the window
It was a very cold morning today.
It was sunny and we saw a beautiful sunrise.
I walked in the garden,
and found a rose 'Pat Austin' at an angel statue on the brick wall.
May the new year bring you happiness!
November, or 'frost month' in traditional Japanes,
has started with a beautiful morning glow.
The stained glass of the gazebo showed wonderful colours.
Some roses in the main garden are still in bloom with Mexican bush sage and white lantana, and they look stunning in the morning sun.
