HOW TO MAKE A CANE TOP (支柱飾りの作り方)

I use cane tops to prevent face injury, especially eye injury.
At first I made cane tops with wooden spheres,
however, wooden cane tops were not easy to make holes on them
and they didn't last long, they cracked in a year or two.

支柱飾りは顔面、特に目のけがを防ぐために使っています.
最初は木の球を使って作っていましたが
穴をあけるのが難しくて、
しかも1，2年で割れて長持ちしませんでした.

Now I use polystyrene balls.
Making a hole is quite easy by using a hot iron rod.
It is easily painted with water-based paint. 

今はポリスチレンボールを使っています.
穴をあけるのは熱した鉄棒を使えばとっても簡単で
水性の塗料で綺麗に塗れます.

MAKING CANE TOPPERS (支柱飾りつくり)

I made cane toppers of wooden spheres several times. 

But most of them have decayed.

何度か木製の球を使って支柱飾りを作りました. 

ほとんどは腐ってしまいました.

I found styrene foam spheres at a DIY shop, 

and I hit upon an idea to make cane topper of them. 

ホームセンターで発泡スチロールの球を見つけ、

それで支柱飾りをつくることを思いつきました.

The problem was how to make a hole, 

and it was easy to solve. 

Stylene form is easy to melt with heat, 

therefore, I bake a steel rod, just smaller than reinforcing bars, using a gas burner and pushed a stylene form sphere on it.  

It's quite easy to make a hole. 

問題はどうやって穴をあけるかでしたが、簡単に方法はみつかりました.

発泡スチロールは熱で簡単に溶けるので、

鉄筋より少し細い鉄の棒をガスバーナーで焼いて

それに発泡スチロールの球を押し付けました.

すると簡単に穴があきました.

Then, I painted them blue, 

and put them on reinforcing bars in the peony bed. 

そして青色に塗って、
シャクヤクの花壇の鉄筋にかぶせました.

This is a very easy way to make cane toppers, 

and they are very economical.

SELF-MADE SIMPLE CANE TOPPERS

We use many posts and stakes made of wood, plastic and steel.  I had been looking for cane toppers for them, because they may have a risk of hurting us with their sharp ends, however, I couldn't find nice looking and economical ones.
So, I decided to make them by myself.  I found a wooden sphere diameter of that is four, five and six centimeters on an online-shop.  They are parts of building blocks for kids.

I bought 4 cm spheres, and made a 2.5 cm-long hole by using an electric drill.

Then, I painted them blue or brown.

Paint on the balls is drying on short bamboos.  They look like small alium flowers, don't they? :)

These simple sphere-shape cane toppers are mainly used to cover the top of reinforcing bars.  They look ornamental in the garden, especially blue ones.

Brown spheres are discreet.  They are used when they are expected not to stand out.
