Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

TODAY'S VIDEO CLIP: The Potager in Late April

今日の動画：四月下旬のポタジェ

In the potager garden, the onion harvest is complete, the apple blossoms have almost finished, and the roses are beginning to bloom, marking the transition from spring to early summer.

We are continuing to harvest spring cabbages and asparagus little by little; the chamomile and flax are in full bloom, and the potato leaves have grown quite lush. Meanwhile, in the border beds, the foxgloves are beginning to bloom in abundance.

With just over ten days to go until the Open Garden, preparations are well underway to welcome our visitors.

ポタジェガーデンではタマネギは収穫が終わり、リンゴの花もほぼ終わり、バラが少し咲き始めて、春から初夏へと移ろい始めています。

春キャベツやアスパラは少しずつ収穫を続けていて、カモミールや亜麻は満開になり、ジャガイモの葉がだいぶん茂ってきました。そしてボーダー花壇ではジギタリスがたくさん咲き始めています。

オープンガーデンまで10日ほどになり、来園の皆さんを迎える準備が進んでいます。

TERRACED HERB BEDS AND JASMINE (ハーブの段々畑とジャスミン)

Spring is now in full swing, and the terraced herb beds are bustling with lush herbs and flowers. Along the fence above, the Jasminum polyanthum is in bloom, filling the garden with its sweet fragrance.

春本番でハーブの段々畑もハーブや草花が茂ってきてにぎやかです。その上にあるフェンスではハゴロモジャスミンが咲いて甘い香りが庭に漂っています。

FIRST HARVEST OF SPRING CABBAGE (春キャベツの初収穫)

The potager garden is coming to life as flowers such as chamomile and flax begin to bloom. Looking up, I can see that the white flowers of the Rosa banksiae are also starting to open.

The spring cabbages we planted at the end of last year have grown quite large. As they are covered with netting, there is no sign of insect damage. We decided to harvest just one to try. It was still a little small, but we enjoyed it for dinner straight away.

ポタジェガーデンではカモミールや亜麻などの花が咲き始めてにぎやかになってきました。上を見上げるとモッコウバラの白い花も開花し始めています。

昨年末に苗を植えた春キャベツがだいぶん大きく育ってきました。ネットをかけているので虫食いはありません。試しに一つだけ収穫をしてみました。まだ少し小さいですが、さっそく夕食においしくいただきました。

GARDENS IN THE MORNING SUN (朝日がさす庭)

I woke up early in the morning and went out into the gardens. As it gradually gets brighter and the sun peeks out from the eastern sky and shines in the gardens, the plants are gradually illuminated and turn a little reddish. The pink roses on the brick wall also blush and turn bright red. The potatoes and chamomile flowers in the potager also shine in the morning sun. It was a magical time for the gardens to wake up.

朝早くおきて庭に出ました。次第に明るくなって、東の空から太陽が顔を出して、庭に日がさしてくると、植物たちが少しずつ照らされて、少し赤みを帯びてきます。レンガ塀のピンクのバラも赤みを帯びて、真っ赤な色になります。ポタジェのジャガイモやカモミールの花にも朝日がさして輝いてきます。庭が目覚める魔法の時間でした。

WHEN APPLE BLOSSOMS BLOOM IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェでリンゴの花の咲くころ)

The variety of apple, ’Alpine maiden’ flowers have started to bloom in the apple arch and espalier in the Potager Garden. The apple blossoms also seem to be late this year. The flowers of another apple variety, the Fuji, are still in bud and are likely to bloom a little later.

ポタジェガーデンのリンゴのアーチとエスパリエ仕立てで、アルプス乙女の花が咲き始めました。リンゴの開花も今年は遅いようです。リンゴのもう一つの品種のフジの花はまだ蕾のままで、少し遅れて咲きそうです。

TERRACED HERB BEDS NOW (ハーブの段々畑の今)

The terraced herb beds in the main garden is now bustling with activity. In the foreground are mint and rose geraniums, and the rose geraniums are beginning to flower. Up above, the lavender has not yet flowered, but the silver-tinged leaves are beautiful. German chamomile is beautiful with lots of flowers. The borage still has lots of flowers and bumblebees are always flying in.

メインガーデンのハーブの段々畑は今にぎやかです。手前にはミントとローズゼラニウムが茂り、ローズゼラニウムは花が開き始めています。上の方ではラベンダーはまだ花は咲いていませんがシルバーがかった葉色が綺麗です。ジャーマンカモミールがたくさん咲いて綺麗です。ボリジもまだ花がたくさんあって、ハナバチがいつも飛んできています。

FLOWERS, VEGS, HERBS AND FRUITS IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェの花、野菜、ハーブ、果実)

It is late May, the first flowers of the Potager roses are over, there are only a few flowers left on the top of foxglove spikes, and many seeds are forming below.

The apple arch and espalier are full of small apple trees, which are gradually getting bigger.

Asparagus is leafing out and Swiss chard and Perilla are growing in net frames.

The cornflowers are still flowering, but the flax has finished flowering and is going to seed.

The grape (Delaware) has started to flower.

In a week or two we will enter the rainy season.

五月下旬になり、ポタジェのバラの一番花は終わり、ジギタリスの花穂の花も残りわずかとなり、下の方には種が沢山できてきています.

リンゴのアーチと垣根にはたくさん小さいリンゴの実がついていて、少しずつ大きくなっています.

アスパラガスは葉を茂らせ、スイスチャードやシソなどがネットフレームの中で育っています.

ヤグルマギクはまだ咲き続けていますが、亜麻は花は終わって種が出来てきています.

ブドウ（デラウェア）の花が咲き始めました.

あと１，２週間で梅雨に入ります.
