PARSNIP IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェのパースニップ)

It was sunny and milder today.

We harvested parsnips in the potager. 

We sowed many seeds last April in the pentagonal bed, 

and only a few germinated.  

Nine months is a long time, but it tasted good in a potage soup this evening.  

今日は晴れて穏やかな天気、

ポタジェでパースニップの収穫です. 

去年の四月に五角形の区画に種をたくさんまきましたが

発芽したのはわずか数個でした.

それから九ヶ月は長かったけど、夕食のポタージュスープでとっても美味しかった！

Two good-sizes parsnips 

Broccoli and brussel sprouts are still producing, and we sometimes pick them.  

ブロッコリとメキャベツはまだ生産していて、ときどき収穫しています.

Nasturtium was damaged by the severe cold last weekend.  

ナスタチウムは先週末のひどい寒さでやられました.

Today's job was repairing steps between blueberry and lemon. 

Three sleepers were restored and others were replaced with Italian stones.

今日の仕事はブルーベリーとレモンの間の階段修復です.
枕木３本は修復しましたが、他は「ローマの石」と取り替えました。

HARVESTING VEGS IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェで野菜の収穫)

We harvested vegs this afternoon:  

Stem broccoli, kohlrabi, parsnip, sweet pepper, Swiss chard and leaf lettuce.  

今日は午後から野菜の収穫、

ブロッコリー、コールラビ、パースニップ、パプリカ、スイスチャード、リーフレタス

The buds of the head of stem broccoli have grown large, firm and tight.

ブロッコリーのつぼみ部分は大きく、硬く、しっかりしています

  

Side-shoots of another broccoli are developing after the main head had been harvested, 

and some flowers has started to bloom (yellow colour beginning to peek through).  

We hope to harvest side-shoots for a while.  

もうひとつのブロッコリーは最初の収穫のあとわき芽がまた成長してきて収穫、
ちょっと花も咲き始めています（黄色い色のところです）
しばらくわき芽からの収穫を期待してます。

The largest purple kohlrabi has grown now about tennis-ball size
and it's time to harvest. 

一番大きくなった紫色のコールラビはちょうどテニスボールサイズで、収穫の時です。

Green leaves of parsnip have grown thick, and its root looked large enough,

therefore, I pulled one of them.  

Unfortunately, its root is short and we are disappointed.  

パースニップは緑の葉がしっかり茂って、根も大きくなったように見えたので

思い切ってひとつ引き抜きました

が、とても短くて残念！

My wife cooked the vegs and we enjoyed them this evening.  

家内が今日の野菜を料理してくれて、夕食においしくいただきました。

GROWING VEGS IN THE POTAGER (大きくなってきたポタジェの野菜たち)

Vegs in the kitchen garden have been growing quite well.  

We bought seedlings of four kinds of Brassicaceae vegetable

 (Romanesco broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Stem broccoli and Red cabbage) 

at a local nursery and planted them in the cold frame in August.  

Some of the young plants were transplanted to the other beds

because they had reached to the top of the frame.

ポタジェの野菜がよく育っています。

4種類の野菜苗（ロマネスコ、メキャベツ、茎ブロッコリ、赤キャベツ）を

8月に近くのナーセリーで買ってフレームに植えていました。

その後フレームの天井まで育った苗は他の区画に移植しています。

AN OBELISK SUPPORT OF A STANDARD ROSE (スタンダードバラのオベリスク形支柱)

A support of a standard rose in the kitchen garden was made of bamboo
and painted blue.  

The support was also used for training of vegetables.

I decided to make a new support because the bamboo support had been rotting.
So, I designed an obelisk-shape support made of wood.  

Today, I have finished making and painting the support.
It looks nice, isn't it?

ポタジェのスタンダード仕立てのバラの支柱は竹でできていて、青く塗っています。
野菜を誘引するのにも使用しています。

その支柱も壊れてきているので、新しい支柱をつくることにしました。
それで木製のオベリスク形の支柱をデザインしました。

今日、組み立てと塗装を終えました。
ちょっと素敵でしょ？

Autumn and winter vegetables including romanesco broccoli, brussels sprouts, stem broccoli, red cabbage, and leaf lettuce.

秋、冬物の野菜は、ロマネスコ、メキャベツ、ステムブロッコリー、赤キャベツ、リーフレタス
