GLOBE ARTICHOKE IS IN BLOOM (アーティチョーク開花)
We picked and cooked artichoke flower buds several times in May,
and flowers left are in bloom now.
Flowers are big and its purple colour looks so stunning.

WILD LIFE ON PLANTS (庭の生き物たち)
This morning I found some wild life on flowers.
In the kitchen garden, a small beetle was walking on a pink dahlia flower.
This beetle, a black cucurbit beetle, is harmless to most plants in the garden,
however, it looks like a rose sawfly (Arge pagana), which is a typical pest of rose, and it is important to distinguish it from the sawfly.

今朝花に生き物たちがいるのを見つけました.
ポタジェではピンク色のダリアの花に小さな虫
このクロウリハムシは庭の植物にはほとんど害はありませんが、
バラの代表的な害虫のチュウレンジバチに見かけが良く似ているため
それと区別するのが大事です.
There was another insect on a orange dahlia.
This grasshopper eats leaves of many plants in the garden.
Most leaves of this dahlia have already been eaten.

On a flower of Rosa 'Scarborough Fair', there was a tree frog (Hyla japonica).
It is an ally because it eats bugs in the garden.
バラのスキャボロフェアの花の上にいたのはアマガエル
虫を食べてくれる味方です.
And there was another ally on a branch of acacia.
A young green mantis was looking around.
ミモザの枝の上には別の味方の姿、
若いカマキリが周りを見渡しています.

OUR ALLY IN OUR GARDEN (庭の私たちの味方)
There live some praying mantises in our garden.
A praying mantis is a sit-and-wait predator,
and it will stay in one place and scan the environment for potential prey.
One day a praying mantis stayed on a rose flower.
I don't know whether it likes a sweet flavor of Rosa 'Gertrude Jekyll' or not:-)
庭には何匹もカマキリが住んでいます
カマキリはじっと動かずに動く獲物を待ちます
ある日、バラの花の上にいました
ガートルード・ジェキルのバラの香りが好きなのかどうかは知りません（笑）

A female praying mantis was laying eggs on a WWF for clematis back of the border.

Next season, a number of young nymphs will hatch from the egg,
and a small number of them will survive and grow up.
