A SINGLE ARTICHOKE FLOWER (一輪のアーティチョークの花)

 

I have been growing artichokes for some time now at the back of the ivy-covered arbour seat in the Bluebell Garden. They haven’t grown very well this year and have produced just a single bud. A few days ago, I noticed that the bud was beginning to open slightly. And finally, a beautiful flower has bloomed this year too. The blue-purple flower is truly a sight to behold.

ブルーベルの庭の上にある木ヅタに覆われた屋根付きベンチの奥に以前からアーティチョークを植えています。今年は成長が悪く、つぼみは一個だけつけています。数日前に蕾が少し開きかけているのを見つけました。そしてついに今年も美しい花が咲きました。青紫色の花はほんとうに見とれるような美しさです。

REPLACEMENT OF LOUVRE FENCE PANELS (ルーバーラティスの交換)

 

About ten years ago, I erected a fence along the eastern boundary of our garden, separating it from the neighbouring property. I used louvre fence panels to block sightlines while allowing air to pass through. This year, those panels began rotting and breaking, so I replaced them with new ones. This time, I opted for durable artificial wood. I expect this will last for quite some time. For details, please see the YouTube video.

およそ十年前に庭の東側の隣地との境界にフェンスを作りました。フェンスにはルーバーラティスを使って、視線は遮る一方で風が通るようにしました。そして今年、そのラティスが朽ちて壊れはじめたので、新しいものに交換しました。今回は耐久性の高い人工木製のものにしました。これでまた当分は大丈夫だと思います。詳細はユーチューブ動画をご覧ください。

ANOTHER CULTIVAR OF CHASTE TREE HAS STARTED TO BLOOM (もう一つのセイヨウニンジンボク開花)

 

There are two varieties of the chaste tree in the garden. The variety where the central flower bed was located flowered the other day, and since the end of last month, another variety in the blue border has flowered. The flowers here are smaller and more delicate. Buds emerge from side shoots and bloom repeatedly until around November. The red flower is trumpet vine, which also continues to flower all the time in summer.

庭には二種類のセイヨウニンジンボクの品種があります。先日中央花壇のあった場所の品種が開花しましたが、先月末から青の花壇のセイヨウニンジンボクが開花しました。こちらの方が花が小さくて繊細な印象です。脇芽から蕾が出て11月ごろまで繰り返し咲いていきます。赤い花はノウゼンカズラで、これも夏中ずっと花が咲き続けています。

INSTALLING HANDRAILS ON THE STAIRS TO MOUNTAIN VIEWING POINT (富士見台への階段に手すりを設置)

 

We repaired the stairs up to the mountain-viewing point last weekend.  

And we decided to install handrails to make it safer to go up and down the stairs.  

First the short handrail was installed at the bottom, then the long handrail was installed at the top. 

富士見台（糸島富士展望台）に登る階段の修理をしました. 

そして、階段の上り下りを安全にできるように、手すりを設置することにしました. 

最初に短い手すりを下の方に設置して、そのあと長い手すりを上の方に設置しました. 

Pre-painted scaffold pipes used for handrail posts. 

手すりの支柱に使う足場パイプは予めペンキを塗りました. 

The length of scaffold pipe used for handrail is 3 metres.

手すりに使う足場パイプの長さは３メートル

After hammering in the support pipes, the handrail pipe was fixed in place using clamps . 

支柱のパイプを打ち込んだ後、クランプを使って手すりのパイプを固定しました. 

Finally, the balustrade is painted to complete the project. 

最後に手すりにペンキを塗って完成です.

Looking over the mountains from the arbour seat, there were two black kites flying in the sky.

アーバーシートから山を望むと、空に二羽のトンビが舞っていました.

THE BLUE BORDER IN EARLY JUNE (六月初めの青の花壇)

 

June has arrived, but the rainy season has not yet begun. The days are dry and hot. In the blue border, the catmint is almost coming to an end and the Salvia guaranitica has started to bloom. And the agapanthus, the June star of the blue border, is growing its spikes. 

六月に入りましたが、まだ梅雨は始まっていません. 毎日乾いた暑い日が続いています. 青の花壇ではキャットミントがそろそろ終わりを迎え、サルビアガラニチカが咲き始めました. そして、青の花壇の六月の主役になるアガパンサスの花が、その花穂を伸ばしてきています.

CATMINT FLOWERS IN COOL BLUE (涼しげなブルーのキャットミントの花)

 

The last day of the Open Gardens was another beautiful day. Many gardening enthusiasts came again. 

オープンガーデン最終日はまたよいお天気でした. ガーデニング愛好家の皆さんがまたたくさん来ていただきました. 

Catmint is beautiful in the blue border flower bed . Bumblebees are flying over the cool blue flowers. 

ブルーのボーダー花壇ではキャットミントが綺麗です. 涼しげなブルーの花にハナバチが飛んできています.

PINK AND PURPLE CORAL PEA (ピンクとパープルのハーデンベルギア)

 

Coral pea, or Hardenbergia is a legume native to Australia, a vine with beautiful flowers in early spring.  It is grown on the east side of the garden behind the flower beds with an arbour seat. 

A welded wire mesh is installed in front of the louvered lattice and the vines are trained to this wire mesh. 

ハーデンベルギアはオーストラリア原産のマメ科の植物で、早春に美しい花を咲かせるつる性植物です. 庭の東側のアーバーシート（屋根付きベンチ）のある花壇の後ろで育てています. 

ルーバーラティスの手前に溶接金網を設置して、この金網にツルは誘引しています. 

9 AM 　午前九時

On the right side of the arbor seat is a pink variety . And on the left is the purple variety. 

アーバーシートの右側にはピンクの品種を植えています. そして左側は紫色の品種です.

In the afternoon, the sun shines directly in front of it. 
午後には真正面から日が当たります.

When the flowers are finished, they are deadheaded. We prune dead or overgrown branches in autumn. 

花が終わったら、花がらを取り除き、秋には枯れた枝や伸びすぎた枝を剪定します.
