Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

A SINGLE ARTICHOKE FLOWER (一輪のアーティチョークの花)

I have been growing artichokes for some time now at the back of the ivy-covered arbour seat in the Bluebell Garden. They haven’t grown very well this year and have produced just a single bud. A few days ago, I noticed that the bud was beginning to open slightly. And finally, a beautiful flower has bloomed this year too. The blue-purple flower is truly a sight to behold.

ブルーベルの庭の上にある木ヅタに覆われた屋根付きベンチの奥に以前からアーティチョークを植えています。今年は成長が悪く、つぼみは一個だけつけています。数日前に蕾が少し開きかけているのを見つけました。そしてついに今年も美しい花が咲きました。青紫色の花はほんとうに見とれるような美しさです。

BEAUTIFUL BLUE OF HYDRANGEA (アジサイの美しいブルー)

The hydrangeas are in bloom in the garden, so I picked some and arranged them on the surface of the water in the small fountain. I arranged the white and pinkish flowers against a blue background. The various shades of blue look absolutely beautiful. The rainy season has taken a break for now, and the sky is clear blue. That blue makes the flowers look even bluer.

アジサイが庭で咲いていて、花を集めて小さな噴水の水面に飾りました。ブルーをベースに白やピンクがかった花を配置しました。いろいろなブルーの色合いがとてもきれいに見えます。梅雨は中休みしていて空は青空です。その青色が花をさらに青く見せています。

HARVESTING JAPANESE APRICOT (梅を収穫しました)

Some of the fruits of the Japanese apricot in the bluebell garden have started to turn colour and fall, so I decided to pick them. Those within reach are easy to pick, but for the ones a little higher up, I pull the branches down to get them. I left the ones that were too high and difficult to reach, and didn’t pick them. The bluebells beneath the tree are starting to wither a little. The seed heads had dried out and the seeds had formed, so I collected those as well. Up above, the blue hydrangeas are in full bloom and look absolutely beautiful.

ブルーベルの庭にある梅の木の一部の実が少し色づいて落下し始めたので収穫することにしました。手の届くところは簡単に取れますが、少し高い所は枝を引っ張り下ろして実を取ります。高くて取るのがむずかしい場所はそのままにして収穫しませんでした。梅の木の下のブルーベルは葉が少し枯れ始めています。シードヘッドが枯れて種ができていたので種も取りました。上のほうでは青いアジサイが満開でとても綺麗です。

THE HYDRANGEAS HAVE STARTED TO BLOOM (アジサイが咲き始めました)

Hydrangea season has arrived. At the entrance at the top of the garden, the white hydrangeas are in full bloom, and some pale pastel-coloured flowers are just beginning to open. They are such lovely colours.

アジサイの季節がやってきました。庭の上の入り口では白いアジサイが満開になり、咲き始めの淡いパステルカラーをした花も咲いています。とてもきれいな色です。

In the Bluebell Garden, the hydrangeas have started to bloom beneath the wild cherry tree. Most of them are a beautiful blue. Next to them stands a single artichoke plant with a single bud.

ブルーベルの庭では山桜の下でアジサイが咲き始めました。ほとんどがきれいなブルーの花です。その横には一個だけ蕾をつけたアーティチョークがあります。

WHITE FLOWERS IN THE BLUEBELL GARDEN (ブルーベルの庭の白い花たち)

In the middle of the rainy season, gardenias are blooming in the Bluebell garden. They smell very sweet. The hydrangea flowers, which have been blooming for some time now, are also getting bigger and brighten up the dark garden in the shade of the wild cherry tree. The chameleon plant also continues to bloom. It too has a distinctive fragrance. The leaves of the Allium triquetrum have completely withered away and the soil can be seen in the areas where the dead leaves have been removed. The bluebell leaves have also generally died back.

梅雨の最中、ブルーベルの庭ではクチナシの花が咲いてきました。とても甘くていい香りがします。少し前から咲いているアジサイの花も大きくなって、山桜の陰の暗い庭を明るくしています。ドクダミも咲き続けています。これも独特の香りを放っています。ミツカドネギの葉は完全に枯れて、枯葉を取り除いた部分は土が見えています。ブルーベルの葉もおおむね枯れてしまいました。
