庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.
　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

HARVESTING ONIONS (タマネギの収穫)

 

It has been five months since we planted small seedlings in the two triangular raised beds in the potager in late November. The onions have grown large and their leaves have fallen over, so it is time to harvest them. First, we harvested the onions from one of the raised beds. It was quite a bountiful harvest. We immediately cooked the smaller ones whole for dinner. They were tender, with no sharpness, and absolutely delicious. The next day, we harvested the onions from the other raised bed as well.


ポタジェの2つの三角形のレイズドベッドに11月の下旬に小さな苗を植え付けて5か月経過しました。タマネギは大きくなって葉が倒れて、収穫のタイミングです。まず一つのレイズドベッドのタマネギを収穫しました。結構たくさんの収穫でした。さっそく夕食に小さなサイズのものから、まるごと煮ていただきました。軟らかくて辛みもなくとても美味しかったです。翌日もう一方のレイズドベッドのタマネギも収穫しました。

POTAGER GARDEN IN EARLY MARCH (3月上旬のポタジェガーデン)

 

The potager garden has seen vegetable and flower seedlings grow with the arrival of March. I expect onions and cabbages will be ready for harvesting in less than two months. Flax and chamomile are also growing well and should bloom beautifully in April. As it will soon be time to plant potatoes, I plan to harvest the Swiss chard and beetroot.


ポタジェガーデンも三月に入って野菜や草花の苗が育ってきました。タマネギやキャベツは２か月足らずで収穫が始まると思います。亜麻やカモミールも育ってきて４月にはきれいに咲くと思います。もうすぐジャガイモの植え付けの時期になるので、スイスチャードやテーブルビートは収穫してしまう予定です。

BLESSED RAIN AND PLANTING NEW FLOWERING SHRUBS (恵みの雨と新しい花木の植付け)

 

Due to the record low rainfall this autumn and winter, water supply restrictions have begun in our region, affecting vegetable growth. Amidst this, we finally had our first substantial rainfall of the winter. The small conical rain gauge filled to capacity, and the large cylindrical gauge showed over 60 millimetres of rain. The garden is refreshed, and the spring onions and cabbages in the potager seem to be growing a little better. At the top of the herb terraces, I planted Japanese spiraea seedlings. It's a variety with golden foliage. I hear it blooms with red flowers in early summer. I'm looking forward to it.


この秋冬の記録的な少雨の影響で私たちの地方では水道の給水制限などが始まっていて、野菜の生育にも影響が出ています。そんな中、この冬初めてまとまった雨が降りました。小さな円錐形の雨量計はいっぱいになり、大きな円筒形の雨量計をみると60ミリを超える雨が降りました。庭は潤い、ポタジェのネギやキャベツも生育が少しよくなりそうです。ハーブの段々畑の一番上に、シモツケの苗を植え付けました。葉色が黄金の品種です。初夏に赤い花が咲くそうです。楽しみです。

SOWING, PLANTING AND PICKING IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェで種まき、苗植え、摘み取り)

 

As we enter the early winter season, I sowed flax seeds in the square raised bed and planted onion seedlings in the triangular raised beds, preparing for next spring. The flax will produce abundant blue flowers around April. It reminds me of the vast fields covered in bloom I saw during my trip to England. The onions are scheduled for harvest in May. I'll be delighted if the seedlings thrive. 

The mini tomatoes in the pentagonal raised bed are ripening red one after another, and I picked a large quantity. Afterwards, I plan to plant spring cabbage seedlings there.


いよいよ初冬に入る時期、来春に向けて、四角のレイズドベッドに亜麻の種をまき、三角のレイズドベッドにタマネギ苗を植え付けをしました。亜麻は4月ごろにたくさんの青い花をつけます。イギリス旅行で見た広大な畑一面に咲く様子を思い出します。タマネギは5月に収穫予定です。うまく苗が育ってくれるとうれしいです。

五角形のレイズドベッドのミニトマトは次々と赤く色づいていて、たくさん摘み取りました。そのあとには春キャベツの苗を植え付け予定です。

HARVESTING ONIONS (タマネギの収穫)

 

Onions planted last autumn were harvested. They were bigger than expected. We also harvested beetroot and Swiss chard, which we had planted as surplus seedlings to plant the next vegetables.


去年の秋に苗を植え付けたタマネギを収穫しました。おもったより大きくなっていました。次の野菜を植えるために、余った苗を植えていたテーブルビートやスイスチャードも一緒に収穫しました。

HARVESTING ONIONS (タマネギの収穫)

 

About five months after planting the seedlings last December, we harvested the onions. Many of them did not grow big enough, perhaps a little too early, but I think they did well for the first time they were made. After that we plan to plant dwarf mini-tomato seedlings.

Leaves were cut and placed in a compost bin.


去年の12月に苗を植えて約5か月、タマネギの収穫をしました。少し時期が早すぎたのか、十分大きく育っていないものも多かったのですが、初めて作った割にはうまく行ったと思います。そのあとには矮性のミニトマトの苗を植え付け予定です。

葉っぱは切ってコンポスト容器に入れました。
