Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

BLUE FLOWERS IN OUR GARDEN (庭の青い花々)

Today I'd like to introduce you to the blue flowers in our garden. Even now, in March, there are a dozen of varieties of blue flowers in bloom. Some are annuals, some are perennials, some are bulbs.

今日は庭の青い花を紹介しましょう. 三月の今の時期でもおよそ十種類あまりの青い花が咲いています. 一年草もあれば多年草、球根植物もあります.

Ajuga decumbens is a wild variety and native to Japan
キランソウは野草で日本原産です

We grow Echium vulgare for the first time in our garden.
エキウムブルガレ（またはシベナガムラサキ）を庭で初めて育てています.

Forget-me-not is native to Europe and is perennial. However it dies in hot summer in Japan. So it is treated as an annual plant. It grows on spilled seeds.
ワスレナグサはヨーロッパ原産の多年草です. しかし、日本では暑い夏に枯れてしまうので一年草として扱われます. こぼれ種で育ちます.

Borage（ボリジ）

Chinese violet cress is native to China. It was imported in the Edo period and has gone wild.
オオアラセイトウは中国原産で、江戸時代に輸入されて、野生化しています.

Nemophila（ネモフィラ）

Brachycome（ブラキカム）

　Periwinkle is native to the western Mediterranean. It is an evergreen perennial, frequently used in cultivation as groundcover.
ツルニチニチソウは地中海西部の原産で、常緑多年草です. グランドカバーによく使われます.

THE 1ST POPPY FLOWER (最初のポピーの花)

Yesterday morning, Oriental poppy has started to bloom in the potager. It's just only one flower, but it is really beautiful!

（ついに昨日の朝、ポタジェでポピーが咲き始めました。たった１個ですが、ほんとに綺麗。）

This has been grown from one of the wildflower mixed seeds that my English teacher gave me as a souvenir from England last September.

（昨年９月にイギリスのお土産として私の英語の先生がくれた野草の花のミックス種から成長したものです。）

Wildflower seeds were sown around the standard rose. Other wildflower plants are growing with the Oriental poppy. Nasturtium has grown vigorously under the rose.　

（この種をスタンダードのバラのまわりに蒔きました。他の野草も一緒に成長しています。ナスターチウムがバラの下でずいぶん大きく育っています。）

In two pentagonal beds, in which we planted asparagus, pink agrostemma has already been blooming with nemophila and white campion.　

（アスパラガスを植えている2つの五角形の区画にピンクのアグロステンマがすでに咲いています。ネモフィラとフクロナデシコも一緒に咲いています。）
