ARISAEMA GROWS ITS FRESH LEAVES

Arisaema ringens has started to grow its leaves,
while most of its red fruits remain uneaten in the shade garden.

Arisaema in a pot also grows leaves now.
It is commonly called Mamushi-Gusa because its characteristic 'mottled’ pattern of leaf sheath looks like Mamushi (a kind of pit viper in Japan).

COLOURFUL DISPLAY IN THE GARDEN(庭の鮮やかな色)

Our garden has been slowly changing into the winter garden.
Some vivid red colour can be found here and there.

and some of the fruits has already eaten by some wildlife (birds?).

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING (登山)

This is the first time for us to climb Mt Kanayama (967m high) in ten years.
Mt Kanayama is one of the summits of Sefuri mountains
located south of Fukuoka City.
I have been there more than two hundreds times, though I climbed to the summit only about thirty times, otherwise I usually enjoyed harvesting wild fruits, mountain stream fishing and climbing mountain stream.

The trail runs through a cryptomeria forest at first.

Then the rail runs through a broadleaf forest.

The trail sometimes runs beside beautiful mountain stream.

We took a break for a while.

===============================================================

Along the trail, we found so many beautiful and unique plants.
Some of them are shown below.

Lycoris radiata

Lespedeza bicolor 萩

A kind of Tricyrtis

Arisaema

This unique plant, Cyrtosia septentrionalis, is called Tsuchi-akebi which means 'earthy Akebia' in Japanese, and is native to Japan.
It depends upon wood-decaying fungi as a nutrition source throughout its life cycle,
and it has no leaf.
It is a kind of orchid and it bears yellow orchid-type flowers in May.
I have never seen its flowers, and this is the second time for me to find its sausage-shaped fruit in my life (last time in 1996).
In that kind of meaning, It is a rather rare plant.
It is not edible.
