PURPLE FLOWERS OF GLORY BUSH (ノボタンの紫の花)
Glory bush is a shrub with purple flowers in late autumn. It is planted on the left side of the potager border.
The flowers are purple with white stamens at the beginning of flowering, but after a short time the stamens disappear and the petals turn reddish.
ノボタンは晩秋に紫の花が咲く低木です. ポタジェのボーダーの左側に植えています.
咲き始めは白いしべがあり花は紫色ですが、少したつとしべはなくなり花びらは赤みを帯びてきます.

PINK ROSES BLOOMING IN THE COLD RAIN (冷たい雨に濡れて咲く薔薇)
A cold late autumn rain has fallen, leaving the flowers of Potager's standard pink rose, Mary Rose, soaking wet and depressed.
It seems to have a stronger fragrance than when it blooms in May.
Colder weather makes roses last longer, but they unfortunately fall off earlier when displayed in warmer rooms.
晩秋の冷たい雨が降って、ポタジェのスタンダード仕立てのピンクのバラ、メアリーローズの花がびっしょり濡れてうつむいています.
五月に咲くときよりも香りが強いような気がします.
寒くなるとバラの花もちがよくなりますが、暖かい室内に飾ると残念ながら早く散ってしまいます.

GARDENIA FRUITS ARE TURNING COLOUR (色づくクチナシの実)
Gardenia fruits are used for their yellow colouring in cooking, but their flowers are strongly aromatic. In our garden they are found in the bluebell garden. In late autumn, the fruits are turning a deep orange colour. Some of the leaves are also turning yellow.
The fruits are harvested, dried and stored for use in cooking.
クチナシの実は料理で黄色の色付けに使われますが、その花は強い芳香があります. 私たちの庭ではブルーベルの庭にあります. 晩秋になり、実が濃いオレンジ色に色づいてきています. 一部の葉も黄色く色づいています.
実を収穫して、乾かして保存し料理で使います.

LEOPARD PLANT FLOWERS HERE AND THERE (あちこちでツワブキ開花)
It is late November and the mornings and evenings are getting colder in the garden. In the garden, the yellow flowers of the leopard plant are blooming here and there. The bright yellow petals and orange stamens are very cheerful. The days are getting shorter and the season is getting dreary, so it's good to have some cheerful flowers.
11月も下旬になって、庭も朝晩は寒くなってきました. 庭ではツワブキの黄色い花があちこちで咲いています. 明るく鮮やかな黄色の花びらとオレンジ色のしべを見ると、何だか元気が出てきます. 日が短くなってさみしくなる季節、元気のでる花はいいですね.

AUTUMN COLOURS OF PINK KNOTWEED (ヒメツルソバの紅葉)
Pink knotweed (Persicaria capitata) is native to the Himalayas and is said to have been introduced to Japan in the Maiji era for rock gardens.
The pink flowers, which look like kompeito sugar (small coloured sugar candy covered with tiny bulges), are beautiful all over.
The sunshine and intense heat of this summer didn't stop them from blooming a lot.
It is now in its autumn leaf colour and the flowers are turning white.
ヒメツルソバはヒマラヤ原産で、日本へは明治時代にロックガーデンに導入されたそうです.
金平糖に似たピンクの花が一面に咲く様子はとても綺麗です.
今年の夏の日照りと猛暑にも負けずにたくさんの花を咲かせていました
今、紅葉の時期を迎え、花も白くなってきています.

MAKING DOUBLE-SIDED GARDEN PHOTO PANELS (両面ガーデンフォトパネル)
Every year, I have selected a few photos of our garden and made them into A2 size (420 x 594 mm) photo panels. However, after a few years, many of the panels warp, which is a problem. I started making double-sided photo panels about two years ago, because I thought that if the photos were put on both sides, the panels would not warp. So far, panels with photos on both sides have hardly warped at all.
毎年、庭の写真の中から数枚を選んで、A2サイズ（420×594mm）の写真パネルにしてきました. しかし、数年たつと反ってくるパネルが多くて困っていました. 写真を片側にだけ貼るのが原因なので、両方に貼ればパネルが反ることもないだろうと考えて、2年ほど前から両面の写真パネルを作るようにしました. 今のところ、両面に写真を貼ったパネルはほとんど反っていません.
Prepare panels with glue on both sides.
両面に糊がついたパネルを使います.
Select two photos to be placed on both sides.
両面に貼る2枚の写真を選びます.
Remove the protective paper and affix the photo. Cut away the excess panel.
保護紙をはがして写真を貼ります. 余分な部分のパネルは切り取ります.
Prepare fishing line and a straight hook and thread the line through the top edge of the panel.
釣り糸と直針を用意し、パネルの上の端っこに釣り糸を通します.
Use a fishing tackle to allow the suspension line to be disconnected in the middle of the panel. This allows the fishing line to be used on either side of the panel.
釣り用具を使って、吊りひもを途中で外せるようにします. そうすることによって、釣りひもをパネルのどちら側でも使えるようになります.
This year I chose 8 photos to print and 4 panels were completed. They will be displayed in our room.
今年は8枚の写真を選んでプリントし、4枚のパネルが完成しました. 部屋に飾って楽しみます.
