NIGHT GARDEN AND THE MOON (夜の庭と月)
The garden at night is illuminated by the wall-mounted light, so it is not completely dark. A slender crescent moon appeared directly ahead, and its light reflected beautifully on the sea surface. The waves were calm, and only the sound of the fishing boats' engines could be heard as they set sail.
夜の庭は壁面につけた電灯で少し明るくしています。それで真っ暗ではありません。ちょうど正面に細く欠けた月がでて、その光が海面に反射して綺麗でした。波は静かで、出港する漁船のエンジンの音だけが響いていました。

BEAUTIFUL SKY AND SEA WITHOUT PEOPLE (人のいない美しい空と海)
Our garden is located on a slope with a view of the beautiful sea and mountains of Itoshima. During the summer tourist season, many people come here for the beautiful sea. The small beach below used to attract a lot of bathers, especially on weekends, but in recent years only a few people come during the mid-summer heat wave. The sky and sea are beautiful when viewed from an air-conditioned room, but once outside it is extremely hot.
私たちの庭は美しい糸島の海や山が見える傾斜地にあります。夏の観光シーズンにはたくさんの人たちが美しい海を目当てにやってきます。下の小さいビーチにも、特に週末はたくさん海水浴の人がやってきていましたが、近年は真夏の猛暑の時期に来る人はわずかになっています。空調の効いた部屋から眺めるぶんにはとても美しい空と海ですが、いったん外に出るとものすごい暑さです。

TWIN SAIKAI BRIDGES AND THE WHIRLPOOLS IN NAGASAKI (二つの西海橋と渦潮)
We went on an overnight trip to Nagasaki Prefecture. First we visited twin Saikai Bridges. It is one of Japan's three fastest tides, with fast currents and whirlpools. The first bridge was built in 1955 and the second in 2006. The New Saikai Bridge has a pedestrian walkway under the roadway so that the whirlpools can be seen directly below. 長崎県に一泊で旅行に行きました. 最初に西海橋を訪ねました. 日本三大急潮の一つで、潮の流れが速く、渦潮が見られます. 1955年に最初の橋ができ、2006年に二つ目の橋ができました. 新西海橋には車道の下に歩道があり、渦潮を真下に見ることができます. 渦潮の動く様子は動画でご覧ください.

FIRST SUNSHINE IN A WEEK (一週間ぶりの日差し)
Thick clouds covered the sky at sunrise this morning, but gradually the sun came out from the west and by 10am the sun was shining brightly. It has been a week since last Saturday since the sun shone this bright. The once-in-a-decade cold wave was predicted, and it turned out to be true, with low temperatures continuing since Tuesday, with occasional snow flurries and very little sunshine.
When the sun did shine, it was very warm in the house. I now know how much I appreciate the sunshine.
今朝は日の出の時間は厚い雲が空を覆っていましたが、少しずつ西の方から晴れ間が出てきて、10時ごろにはしっかり日が射してきました. これほど日が照るのは先週土曜日から一週間ぶりです. 十年に一度の強い寒波が予想されていましたが、その通りになって火曜日からずっと低温が続き、ときどき雪が舞ってほとんど日が射すことがありませんでした.
日が射してから家の中はとても暖かくなりました. 日光の有難さがよく分かりました.
It was still sunny in the afternoon and the sea was a beautiful colour. It's been a long time since the sun shone on the garden.
午後になっても晴れていて、海が美しい色になっていました. 庭にしっかり日が当たるのも久しぶりです.
The weather managed to keep up until the evening. But it was still a cold winter day outside, with a maximum temperature of only 3 degrees Celsius.
夕方まで何とかお天気は持ちました. でも、最高気温は摂氏３度にとどまって、外はやっぱり寒い冬の一日でした.
