Angela, the pink rose that blooms atop the arch, is now in its fifteenth year. It reaches full bloom at this time every year and is one of the star roses of the main garden. As dusk falls, its colour appears slightly different from how it looks during the day.
アーチの上に咲くピンクのバラ、アンジェラは今年で15年になります。毎年この時期に満開になり、メインガーデンの主役のバラのひとつです。夕暮れ時になると昼間とは少し色合いも違って見えます。
It is still the rainy season and there has been heavy rain, but the roses have started to bloom again in the garden after the rain stopped and the morning sun shone. Vine rose 'Angela' on the arch, which had many flowers in May, and shrub rose 'Scarborough Fair' next to the sleeper steps.
まだ梅雨の季節で、大雨も降りましたが、雨がやんで朝日が射す庭でバラがまた咲き始めていました。五月にたくさんの花を咲かせたアーチのつるバラ「アンジェラ」と、枕木の階段横の木立性バラ「スキャボロフェア」です。

I cut dead branches, thin branches and side branches while using a stepladder for the higher areas.
It took about two hours.
We had quite a lot of pruning debris.
They will start to bud in about a month and will bloom beautifully in May.
We are still waiting for the other roses to be pruned, so we are still busy in the garden in winter, in between bad weather.
鉄のアーチのつるバラ、アンジェラの冬剪定をしました。
高い所は脚立を使いながら、枯れ枝や細い枝、側枝などを切ります。
およそ2時間で終わりました。
剪定くずが結構たくさん出ました。
あと一か月ほどで芽吹き始めて、5月には美しく咲いてくれるでしょう。
まだ他のところのバラたちの剪定も待っていますので、
悪天候のはざまに冬も庭仕事が忙しいです。
We have been creating small English-style gardens since 2010, and have been doing more of the handful of things we can think of.
We thought it is time to relax and take it easy, and decided to make the garden sustainable 'for us'.
First, we reduce hazardous work. For example, we reduce use of stepladders, e.g. for rose arches.
For a start, the white rose arch has been removed.
We will change our gardens over a year or two.
2010年から小さな英国風庭園を造ってきて、思いつくまま手のかかることを増やしてきました.
そろそろ力を抜いてゆったりやっていこうかと思い、「私たちにとって」持続可能な庭にしていこことにしました.
まず危険な作業を減らします. 例えばバラのアーチなど脚立を使う作業を減らします.
手始めにレンガ塀前の白バラのアーチを撤去しました.
一、二年かけて庭を変えていきます.

We removed half of the white-rose ('Snow Goose' and 'Iceberg') arbour because it was in the way when we built the garden room.
ガーデンルームを建てるときに邪魔になったので白バラ（スノーグースとアイスバーグ）のドーム型アーチは半分撤去しました.

I used rebar and aluminum wire to make an arch. Last time we made a rectangular shape at the bottom and a round dome at the top (I called it an arbour), but this time I made a cuboid shape.
I inserted two rebars at each of the four corners, bundle them together, and connect the tops of the diagonals with long rebars. In addition, rebars were connected to the long sides to reinforce them. Aluminum wire was used to fix the rebar to each other. Rusty rebar blends in with the plant.
鉄筋とアルミ線を使ってアーチを作ります。前回は下は長方形で上は丸いドーム型としましたが、今回は直方体の形にしました。
四隅に2本ずつ鉄筋を挿して束ね、対角線の上端を長い鉄筋で連結します。さらに、長辺に鉄筋を連結して補強しました。鉄筋同士を固定するのにアルミ製の針金を使用しました。錆びた鉄筋は植物の中に溶け込みます.

It’s boiling hot these days.
White roses are flowering on the iron arch in front of the brick wall.
They are Rosa 'Snow Goose', and 'Iceberg', both of which flower repeatedly from early summer to the end of autumn.
A pink rose on the wall is Rosa 'Gertrude Jekyll'.
