Daytime temperatures haven’t even reached 30°C, and the weather has taken on a distinctly autumnal feel. Autumn and winter vegetables are growing in the potager.
日中の気温も３０℃には届かず、すっかり秋の気候になってきました。ポタジェでは秋冬の野菜が育っています。
The daikon radish seeds sown in the border flowerbed have gradually begun to sprout. This is the first time I’ve grown vegetables here.
ボーダー花壇に種まきをした大根は少しずつ発芽してきました。ここに野菜を育てるのは初めてです。
During the summer, I grew small watermelons in the two triangular raised beds and harvested eight from each. Afterwards, as badgers had been digging them up, I enclosed the beds with triangular mesh frames and sowed daikon radish and table beet seeds. The daikon radishes have sprouted, whilst the table beets have only just begun to emerge. We plan to harvest the daikon radishes in winter.
二つの三角形のレイズドベッドは夏の間は小玉スイカを育てて、それぞれ８個ずつ収穫できました。そのあとアナグマが掘り返したりしたので、三角形のネットフレームで囲って、大根とテーブルビートの種をまきました。大根は発芽し、テーブルビートはまだ発芽はわずかです。大根は冬に収穫の予定です。
We harvested the edamame in August and, as we had some seeds left over, we sowed them again; despite the caterpillars having eaten quite a lot of the leaves, the pods are starting to form. I expect we’ll be harvesting them around the end of this month.
枝豆は８月に収穫して、種が余っていたのでもう一度種をまいていましたが、芋虫に葉をだいぶん食べられたにも関わらず、実が付き始めています。今月末ぐらいの収穫でしょうか。
Furthermore, the potatoes we planted in early September are growing vigorously. We plan to harvest these in early December.
そして、９月初めに植えたジャガイモがすくすく育っています。こちらは１２月初めに収穫の予定です。
