WONDERFUL TRUMPET VINE ARCHES (ノウゼンカズラの見事なアーチ)
In 1996, the World Ceramics Exposition was held in the Arita area of Saga Prefecture. A park was created to commemorate the event. There is a splendid World Ceramics Exposition Memorial Hall and the monument 'Flower flame' by Taro Okamoto remains.
The park is vast, and in one corner there is an archway with a Chinese honeysuckle plant. It is just in bloom, and the red and yellow Campsis radicans are in full bloom. The trumpet-shaped flowers sway in the wind and are a wonderful sight. It is a very pleasant park.
1996年に佐賀県の有田地区で世界・焱（ほのお）の博覧会が開催されました。それを記念して公園が作られました。立派な炎の博記念堂があり、岡本太郎作の花炎も残されています。
公園は広大で、その一角にノウゼンカズラのアーチがあります。ちょうど開花の時期で、赤と黄色のアメリカノウゼンカズラが咲いています。トランペットの形の花で、風に揺れてすばらしい光景です。とても気持ちの良い公園です。

AZALEA VALLEY IN MIFUNEYAMA GARDEN (御船山楽園のつつじ谷に行ってきました)
We visited Mifuneyama Rakuen in Takeo City, Saga Prefecture. It was just azalea blossom season and the view of the famous azalea spot called Azalea Valley was breathtaking. The fresh green of the huge camphor tree was also beautiful.
佐賀県武雄市にある御船山楽園へ行ってきました。ちょうどツツジの花の季節で、つつじ谷と呼ばれるつつじの名所の景色は圧巻でした。新緑の大楠もきれいでした。

HARIO TRANSMITTING STATION IN SASEBO, NAGASAKI（佐世保の針尾送信所を訪ねて）
When we visited Saikai Bridge on the outskirts of Sasebo City last summer, we saw a line of three tall towers in the distance from the observatory, which the information board said was the transmitting station.
We visited the Hario Transmitting Station on our way to Huis Ten Bosch this time.
去年の夏に佐世保市郊外の西海橋を訪ねた時に、展望台から遠くに高い3本の塔が並んでいるのが見え、送信所と案内板に書いてありました。
今回ハウステンボスに行ったついでに、この針尾送信所を訪ねてみました。

The Hario Transmitting Station was a communications facility built by the former Imperial Japanese Navy between 1918 and 1922. The Russo-Japanese War made it necessary to strengthen the radio communication system, and it was built at a total cost of 1.55 million yen (about 25 billion yen today). The three radio towers on the site are made of reinforced concrete and have a chimney-like structure with a height of 136 metres and a base diameter of 12 metres.
In the centre of the radio towers, which are arranged in an equilateral triangle measuring 300 metres on each side, a reinforced concrete communications and power generation facility called the Transmission Room was also constructed.
Recent research has shown that, along with the historical background of the construction of this facility, it is also highly regarded in terms of civil engineering and radio technology, and has been designated as an important cultural asset as a heritage of modernisation that symbolises Japan's technological development.
針尾送信所は、旧日本海軍が大正七年（1918年）から十一年（1922年）にかけた通信施設です。日露戦争を契機として無線連絡体制の強化が必要となり、総工費155万円（現在の約250億円）をかけて建設されました。敷地内にある３基の無線塔は鉄筋コンクリート製で、高さは１３６メートル、基底部の直径は１２メートルの煙突のような構造になっています。
一辺３００メートルの正三角形に配置された無線塔の中心には、電信室と呼ばれる鉄筋コンクリート造りの通信および発電施設も建設されました。
近年の調査により、本施設が建設された歴史的背景とともに、土木技術や無線技術の面からも高く評価され、日本の技術発展を象徴する近代化遺産として重要文化財に指定されています。

Bats were hanging and resting in the dim light of the transmission room.
通信室の薄暗いところにはコウモリが捕まって休んでいました。

LATE AUTUMN ROSES IN HUIS TEN BOSCH (ハウステンボス 晩秋のバラ)
The other day we visited Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki.
There are rose gardens on both sides in front of the Palace Huis Ten Bosch at the far end. One side is designed around a round pond, with lots of bush roses and climbing roses growing on arches on all four sides.
There were quite a few autumn roses in bloom.
先日、長崎のハウステンボスに行きました.
一番奥にあるパレスハウステンボスの手前の両側にバラ園があります. 片方は丸い池を中心としたデザインで、たくさんの木立バラと、四方のアーチにつるバラが育っています.
秋バラが結構咲いていました.
The other rose garden is based on a rectangular design with a row of square arches, with a standard rose in the centre. Here there is a collection of white roses.
もう一方のバラ園は四角形を基調にして、四角いアーチが並ぶデザインで、中央にはスタンダードバラがあります. ここには白いバラが集められています.
