AUTUMN FOUND ON MT. KAGAMI (鏡山でみつけた秋)

 

I visited Mt. Kagamiy (284 m), about 20 km west of our house, for the first time in a long time. Passing through the one of the three largest pine forests in Japan, we passed through a bright red torii gate and climbed up a curved slope. At the top is a wide flat area with a large pond. From the viewing platform you can see a magnificent pine grove stretching 4 km from east to west and the sea (Karatsu Bay) beyond. The paddy fields in front of the pine grove are turning yellow and the rice will soon be ready for harvest. 

我が家から西に直線距離で20キロほど離れた鏡山（284 m）を久しぶりに訪ねました. 日本三大松原を抜けて、真っ赤な鳥居をくぐって、カーブの多い坂道を上ります. 頂上は広い平地が広がり、大きな池があります. 展望台からは東西に4キロほどの見事な松原と、その向こうに広がる海（唐津湾）が見えます. 松原の手前にある水田は黄色く色づいていて、稲が間もなく収穫の季節を迎えるようです. 

I found many signs of autumn during my walk on the summit. The Japanese beautyberry is producing beautiful purple berries in profusion, and the leaves are turning a little yellow. 

山頂を散歩していて、たくさんの秋の兆しを見つけました. ムラサキシキブは美しい紫の実をたわわにつけて、葉が少し黄色くなってきています. 

The Japanese maple is beginning to turn red . 

イロハモミジは紅葉を始めています. 

Ginkgo leaves are also turning yellow . 

イチョウの葉も黄色くなってきています. 

The Japanese clover blooms beautifully this early autumn. 

初秋に咲くハギの花が綺麗にさいています. 

Colourful carp were swimming in the pond, surrounding a turtle floating on the surface of the water. 

池ではいろとりどりの鯉たちが、水面に浮かぶカメを囲んで泳いでいました.

MAIN GARDEN IN EARLY WINTER (初冬のメインガーデン)

 

December has brought us alternating sunny, warm days and dark, cold days. In the garden, the deciduous trees are turning red and yellow, the citrus fruits are changing colors, and the early winter flowers are in bloom. 

12月に入って、晴れて暖かい日と暗くて寒い日が交互に現れています. 庭では落葉樹の紅葉がみられ、柑橘類の実が色づいてきて、初冬の花も咲いて、この季節らしい美しさを楽しめます.

YELLOW FLOWERS OF MEXICAN MARIGOLD (レモンマリーゴールドの黄色い花)

Leaves of Japanese maple and blueberry became red, 

and Tagetes lemmonii, or Mexican marigold behind the trellis is now in full bloom. 

Mexican marigold is a evergreen shrub and has a strong scent like lemon. 

It bears yellow daisy-like flowers in late autumn and winter. 

イロハモミジとブルーベリーが赤く色づき、

トレリスの背後のレモンマリーゴールドが今満開です.

レモンマリーゴールドは常緑の低木で強いレモンのような香りがあります.

晩秋から冬に黄色いデイジーの形の花をつけます.

PRUNING IN THE MAIN GARDEN (主庭の剪定)

In the main garden, blueberry spread many vertical branches in summer.
We pruned the branches to limit the height of blueberry.
After pruning prospect over it was improved  much better,
and more lemon fruits became visible. 

 
 
 
 
 主庭では夏の間にブルーベリーが垂直にたくさんの枝を伸ばしています.
樹高を保つために剪定をしました.
剪定したら、ブルーベリーの上からの見通しが良くなって
レモンの実がたくさん見えるようになりました.


Trumpet vine branches of this season were cut,
and some of the branches of Japanese maple, lemon and Citrus maxima 'Tosa-buntan' were also pruned short.

 
 
ノウゼンカズラの今年の枝は全部切り、
イロハモミジやレモン、土佐文旦の枝も少し切り詰めました.
