YELLOW CANNA & ORANGE TRUMPET VINE (黄色いカンナとオレンジのノウゼンカズラ)

Water canna is beginning to bear yellow flowers in a bath tub pool. 

It's grown very high and we must look them up. 

It flowers repeatedly until autumn. 

水性のカンナがバスタブの小池の中で黄色い花を咲かせ始めています.

とても背が高くなって、見上げます.

秋まで繰り返し咲きます.

Orange flowers of trumpet vine is also blooming in the central flower bed.
Its color is stunning in the green.

ノウゼンカズラのオレンジの花も中央花壇で咲いています.
緑の中でとてもきれいです.

In the border, astilbe grows spikes of pink flowers,
and geranium is flowering continuously from April.

ボーダーではアスチルベがピンクの花穂を伸ばし、
ゲラニウムも四月から咲き続けています.

A BEAUTIFUL MORNING IN JUNE (美しい六月の朝)

It was sunny and hot today.
In the morning, when the sun rose, the garden looked to beautiful
mainly due to green leaves.

今日は晴れて暑い日でした.
朝、朝日が昇るとき、庭は特に緑がとても美しく見えました.

Some of repeat-blooming roses have started the second bloom. 

四季咲きのバラの中には2番花をつけ始めたものもあります.

In the border, chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) and agapanthus are in bloom.

At noon, we felt cool looking at those blue flowers though the sun shine was so hot.

お昼、とても日差しが暑かったのですが、ブルーの花を見ると涼しげです.

Coleus is also bearing blue flowers which contrast with its red and yellow leaves. 

コレウスも青い花をつけていて、その赤や黄色の葉とのコントラストをなしています.

ROSES CUT IN PREPARATION FOR TYPHOON (バラの台風対策)

The typhoon #15 will come tomorrow morning.  We prepared for it.  

I pruned shoots of climbing roses, and supported shrub roses with stakes.  

We also cut many rose flowers.  

Other plants such as water cannas were also supported with stakes.  

We wish for there not being substantial damages.  

（台風15号が明日の朝来ます。その準備をしました。ツルバラの枝を剪定し、シュラブローズを支柱で支えました。たくさんのバラの花も切りました。ほかの植物、カンナなども倒れないように支えました。大した被害が出ないことを祈ります。）

POOL & BLUEBERRY （水槽とブルーベリー）

In the pool, water canna and sweet flag are growing.  Last November we divided water canna and reduced rhizomes.

Blueberry fruits are also growing behind the pool.  We will probably have the same good harvest as last year.


（水槽ではカンナとショウブが育ってきています。昨年11月にカンナは株分けして数を減らしました。水槽の後ろではブルーベリーの実が大きくなってきています。今年も去年と同じようにたくさん収穫が多分できそうです。）

DIVIDING WATER CANNA (水性カンナの株分け)

Yesterday we divided water canna in the pool.  It really has grown so large and its pot became easy to lean.

I bought tree plastic cages for planting water plants.

We took canna out of a pot, and divided it by hand.  Its rhizomes were bound tightly each other and it was hard to divide them.

Most of rhizomes were canna, and sweet flag didn't grow well.

So, water canna and sweet flag were not planted in the same cage.  Water canna in two cages, and sweet flag in one cage.

Three cages were placed in the pond with a pot of lotus.

Remaining canna rhizomes will be planted somewhere else.  We are discussing about it now.

In the pond, we keep small fish 'Japanese rice fish' (Oryzias latipes) .  They were presented by a man who have a large pond in his biotope.  They eat mosquito larva.  We netted them to confirm that they survive.  We found eight fish.

We wish the water plants flower beautifully next year.

SUMMER FLOWERS

August has come.  Many summer flowers in the neighborhood catch and please the eyes of the passengers.


Canna is a representative plant of summer in Japan, and its vivid colors suite the summer with bright sunlight and clear blue sky.

Canna　（カンナ）

Crinum asiaticum is a native plant in our area, and it prefers coast.  It's a kind of lily and the Japanese name is 'hama yuu' (it means cotton strips of the coast).

Crinum asiaticum　（ハマユウ）

Hibiscus species are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions, and many species are grown in our area.

 Hibiscus hamabo　（ハマボウ） is native in our area, and there is a huge cluster along the river close to the sea in our neighborhood. 

Hibiscus mutabilis　（フヨウ） is very popular and widely grown in Japanese gardens.  

Hibiscus syriacus　（ムクゲ） is also very popular in Japan.  

Nerium oleander var. indicum is another popular garden trees in Japan.  It grows to 2 to 3 meters of width and hight, and is usually planted in a large area.  Red or white color is common.

Salvia guaranitica is frequently found in the meadow in our neighborhood.  I like this blue color.
