庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.
　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

TODAY'S VIDEO CLIP: The Potager in Late April

 

今日の動画：四月下旬のポタジェ





In the potager garden, the onion harvest is complete, the apple blossoms have almost finished, and the roses are beginning to bloom, marking the transition from spring to early summer. 

We are continuing to harvest spring cabbages and asparagus little by little; the chamomile and flax are in full bloom, and the potato leaves have grown quite lush. Meanwhile, in the border beds, the foxgloves are beginning to bloom in abundance. 

With just over ten days to go until the Open Garden, preparations are well underway to welcome our visitors.


ポタジェガーデンではタマネギは収穫が終わり、リンゴの花もほぼ終わり、バラが少し咲き始めて、春から初夏へと移ろい始めています。

春キャベツやアスパラは少しずつ収穫を続けていて、カモミールや亜麻は満開になり、ジャガイモの葉がだいぶん茂ってきました。そしてボーダー花壇ではジギタリスがたくさん咲き始めています。

オープンガーデンまで10日ほどになり、来園の皆さんを迎える準備が進んでいます。

ASPARAGUS IS SPROUTING (アスパラガスが出てきました)

 

The asparagus has started to sprout in the potager garden. It is purple asparagus grown in a pentagonal raised bed. It looks as though we’ll be able to harvest it for a while to come.


ポタジェガーデンではアスパラガスが出始めました。五角形のレイズドベッドに育てている紫色のアスパラガスです。これからしばらく収穫できそうです。

FIRST HARVEST OF SPRING CABBAGE (春キャベツの初収穫)

 

The potager garden is coming to life as flowers such as chamomile and flax begin to bloom. Looking up, I can see that the white flowers of the Rosa banksiae are also starting to open. 

The spring cabbages we planted at the end of last year have grown quite large. As they are covered with netting, there is no sign of insect damage. We decided to harvest just one to try. It was still a little small, but we enjoyed it for dinner straight away.


ポタジェガーデンではカモミールや亜麻などの花が咲き始めてにぎやかになってきました。上を見上げるとモッコウバラの白い花も開花し始めています。

昨年末に苗を植えた春キャベツがだいぶん大きく育ってきました。ネットをかけているので虫食いはありません。試しに一つだけ収穫をしてみました。まだ少し小さいですが、さっそく夕食においしくいただきました。

POTAGER GARDEN IN EARLY MARCH (3月上旬のポタジェガーデン)

 

The potager garden has seen vegetable and flower seedlings grow with the arrival of March. I expect onions and cabbages will be ready for harvesting in less than two months. Flax and chamomile are also growing well and should bloom beautifully in April. As it will soon be time to plant potatoes, I plan to harvest the Swiss chard and beetroot.


ポタジェガーデンも三月に入って野菜や草花の苗が育ってきました。タマネギやキャベツは２か月足らずで収穫が始まると思います。亜麻やカモミールも育ってきて４月にはきれいに咲くと思います。もうすぐジャガイモの植え付けの時期になるので、スイスチャードやテーブルビートは収穫してしまう予定です。

BLESSED RAIN AND PLANTING NEW FLOWERING SHRUBS (恵みの雨と新しい花木の植付け)

 

Due to the record low rainfall this autumn and winter, water supply restrictions have begun in our region, affecting vegetable growth. Amidst this, we finally had our first substantial rainfall of the winter. The small conical rain gauge filled to capacity, and the large cylindrical gauge showed over 60 millimetres of rain. The garden is refreshed, and the spring onions and cabbages in the potager seem to be growing a little better. At the top of the herb terraces, I planted Japanese spiraea seedlings. It's a variety with golden foliage. I hear it blooms with red flowers in early summer. I'm looking forward to it.


この秋冬の記録的な少雨の影響で私たちの地方では水道の給水制限などが始まっていて、野菜の生育にも影響が出ています。そんな中、この冬初めてまとまった雨が降りました。小さな円錐形の雨量計はいっぱいになり、大きな円筒形の雨量計をみると60ミリを超える雨が降りました。庭は潤い、ポタジェのネギやキャベツも生育が少しよくなりそうです。ハーブの段々畑の一番上に、シモツケの苗を植え付けました。葉色が黄金の品種です。初夏に赤い花が咲くそうです。楽しみです。

THE POTAGER GARDEN IN FEBRUARY (二月のポタジェガーデン)

 

In the potager garden, beetroot, spinach and Swiss chard are growing in a pentagonal raised bed protected by a net frame. We harvested and ate some table beetroot that had grown a little larger. In another net-covered pentagonal raised bed, the leaves of the spring cabbages are gradually growing larger. Harvesting should be around May. The small onion seedlings are also growing without withering. The flax and chamomile are also growing slightly larger in preparation for spring. I look forward to April and May, when the potager will be beautifully vibrant.


ポタジェガーデンではテーブルビートやホウレンソウ、スイスチャードがネットフレームで守られた五角形のレイズドベッドで育っています。少し大きくなったテーブルビートを収穫して食べました。もう一つのネットがかかった五角形のレイズドベッドでは春キャベツの葉が少しずつ大きくなっています。収穫は5月頃になると思います。小さなタマネギの苗も枯れずに育っています。亜麻やカモミールも春に向けてわずかに大きくなっています。ポタジェが美しく輝く四月、五月が楽しみです。

PLANTING CABBAGE SEEDLINGS IN LATE DECEMBER (年末のキャベツ苗の植え付け)

 

In the potager, the asparagus has withered, marking the end of this season. I pruned them back to ground level. The North Pole and chamomile that bloomed this spring have grown, and the North Pole is beginning to flower a little. The mini tomatoes, planted twice this spring and summer, failed to ripen due to the cold and are now finished. I pulled them up and disposed of them in the compost bin.

Following the mini tomatoes, cabbage seedlings have been planted. Insect netting has been placed over them to protect the leaves from pests. They are scheduled for harvest next spring.


ポタジェではアスパラガスが枯れてきて、今シーズンも終了です。地際で剪定しました。今年の春に咲いたノースポールやカモミールが育ち、ノースポールは少し花が咲き始めています。春と夏に二度植え付けて育てたミニトマトも寒さで実が熟せず、もう終わりです。引き抜いてコンポスト容器に処分しました。

ミニトマトの後にはキャベツの苗を植え付けました。防虫ネットをかぶせて虫から葉を守ります。来春の収穫予定です。
