The toad lily, which blooms with red flowers in autumn, is a perennial herb. Its pink petals feature red edging and dark red spots. Its spotted pattern resembles that of the bird known as the Lesser Cuckoo, hence its Japanese name. The toad lily's flowering is also later than usual this year.
秋に赤い花を咲かせるホトトギスは宿根性の多年草です。ピンクの花びらに赤い縁取りと暗赤色の斑点があります。斑点模様が鳥のホトトギスに似ていることから、和名はホトトギスと呼ばれています。ホトトギスの開花も例年より遅れています。
At the entrance above the garden, white lantana is in bloom. It has been flowering vigorously since the extremely hot summer. The flowers and leaves possess a distinctive, pleasant fragrance.
Beside it, in the urn, Superbells (a variety of petunia) still display their blue-purple flowers.
庭の上の入り口で白いランタナが咲いています。猛暑の続く夏から元気に咲いています。花や葉に独特のいい香りがします。
その横には壺型プランターにスーパーベル（ペチュニアの品種）がまだ青紫の花を咲かせています。
The ginger lilies, which bloom every year at the end of summer, have come into flower. They give off a strong, sweet fragrance. The appearance of ginger lilies closely resembles that of ginger. However, ginger hardly ever flowers, and it seems very few people have ever seen its blossoms. Beside the ginger lilies stands a white lantana bush, which continues to flower constantly. Though temperatures occasionally exceed 35°C, the season seems to be gradually turning towards autumn.
毎年夏の終わりに咲くジンジャーリリーが咲いてきました。強い甘い香りを放ちます。ジンジャーリリーの姿は生姜によく似ています。しかし生姜はほとんど花が咲かなりらしく、花を見たことのある人はとても少ないようでう。ジンジャーリリーの横には白いランタナの木があり、ずっと咲き続けています。時々35℃を超える暑さが続いていますが、季節は少しずつ秋に向かっているようです。
White lantana has started to flower this month and there are many in bloom. They are beautiful clusters of small white flowers with yellow eyes. It is an easy plant to grow with few pests and diseases. The branches can be cut back each year to the same size. In our garden it grows by the topmost steps and at the edge of the bluebell garden where the potager can be seen.
白いランタナが今月咲き始めて、たくさん咲いています。黄色い目をもつ白い小花が集まったきれいな花です。病害虫がほとんどなく、育てやすい植物です。毎年枝を切り戻して、同じサイズに整えられます。私たちの庭では、一番上にある階段の脇と、ポタジェが見えるブルーベルの庭の淵で育てています。
On the lower slope from the bluebell garden, white lantana, reddish purple small lantana, and Lemmon's marigold are blooming now. The lantana has been blooming all summer and now. Small lantana blooms mostly in the spring and autumn, with the greatest number of blooms in autumn. Lemｍon's marigolds bloom from November to January.

ブルーベルの庭から下の斜面では、白のランタナ、赤紫のコバノランタナ、そしてレモンマリゴールドが今咲いています。ランタナは夏からずっと咲いています。コバノランタナは春と秋に主に咲きますが、秋が一番たくさん咲きます。レモンマリゴールドは11月から1月まで咲きます。

Here are two types of white flowers in bloom at this time of year.
One is the white lantana. It starts to flower in early summer and continues to flower all the way until late autumn.
Prune it short each year to keep it compact and not too big.
今の時期に咲いている白い花を2種類ご紹介します。
一つは白のランタナです。初夏から咲きだして、ずっと晩秋まで花を咲かせ続けます。
毎年短く剪定すると、大きくなりすぎずコンパクトに維持できます。
The white lantana at the entrance to the Bluebell garden has been flowering all summer. It has been really hot, around 35°C all the time, but lantana is a heat tolerant plant. Next to it is a yellow canna in bloom.
ブルーベルの庭の入り口にある白いランタナは夏にずっと花を咲かせ続けています。ずっと35℃前後の本当に暑い日が続いていますが、ランタナは暑さに強い植物です。その隣には黄色のカンナが咲いています。
In 2011, we created a leaf-shaped flower bed in the centre of the main garden. It was the first bricklaying project using several hundred antique-style bricks. After completion, the central flower bed was filled with potting compost.
We started with bulbous plants and annuals and then added flowering shrubs, including roses.
A garden room was installed immediately adjacent to the flowerbed in 2020, which reduced the amount of sunlight a little.
As part of the conversion to a sustainable garden for us, we decided this time to remove the central flower bed. The aim was also to create a place where we could spend time in the garden with visitors, as we have tried to grow full plants in every corner of the garden and there was no space for people to gather.
The first part of the removal work is transplanting and disposing of the growing plants. Last weekend, we did some strong pruning of the small lantana. It will be transplanted to the lower slope of the bluebell garden.
We hope to finish removing the central flower bed before the open garden in May this year.
2011年にメインガーデンの中央に木の葉型の花壇を夫婦で作りました。アンティーク風のレンガを数百個使って初めてのレンガ積み作業でした。完成後に培養土を入れて中央花壇は出来上がりました。
最初は球根植物や一年草から育て始め、バラを含む低木の花木も加えていきました。
2020年にすぐ横に隣接してガーデンルームを設置し、日当たりが少し悪くなりました。
私達にとって継続可能な庭への転換の一環として、中央花壇を撤去することを今回決めました。また、庭の隅々までフルに植物を育てるようにしてきたため、人が集えるスペースがなかったので、来園者と庭ですごせる場所をつくるのも目的です。
撤去作業の最初は、育てている植物の移植や処分です。週末にコバノランタナの強剪定をしました。ブルーベルの庭の下の斜面に移植する予定です。
中央花壇の撤去は今年5月のオープンガーデンまでには終わらせたいと思っています。
