GARDEN PLANTS COMING INTO BUD (庭では一斉に芽が吹き出して)

Though it's still cold and cloudy with some rain these days,
many garden trees and shrubs are coming into bud in our garden.


まだまだ寒くて曇りがちで雨も時々降る天気ですが、
庭の木々は一斉に芽を出してきています.



The first tree flower in March in our garden is plum flowers,
and flower buds are almost opening today. 

3月に最初に花を咲かせる木はスモモで、
花の蕾が今にも開きそうです.

And, the second is blueberry.

All leaves had fallen in February at last, 

and their flower buds is swelling, some fresh leaves emerging. 

二番目はブルーベリーで

2月にはやっと葉が全部散って、

花芽が膨らんできて葉も少し伸びてきています.

Other plants, such as hydrangea, clematis and euphorbia are growing their fresh leaves, 

and this is an opening of the new season of our gardening. 

他の植物、アジサイやクレマチス、ユーフォルビアなども新緑が伸びてきて、

いよいよ私たちのガーデニングの新しいシーズンも始まります.

PERENNIALS & ROSES PLANTED IN THE BORDER (ボーダーへの多年草とバラの植栽)

It was hot this afternoon

because it's sunny and the temperature rose up to 23.5 degrees Celsius. 

We planted roses and perennials in the border. 

After preparing soil, which was a real manual labour, 

we reconsider and finally determined the planting scheme.  

今日は晴れて、午後には23.5度まで温度も上昇、

暑い一日でした. 

ボーダーにバラと多年草を植えつけました.

まさしく肉体労働の土の準備のあと、

もう一度植えつけの計画を考えて最終的に決めました.

In the back of the border, rose seedlings were planted. 

On the left, three seedlings which I grew from seeds of 'Constance Spry'.  

Three seedlings have different characteristics; 

one of them has red stems and the others have green ones.  

ボーダーの奥にはバラの実生苗を植えます.

左側には「コンスタンス・スプライ」の種から育てた苗です. 

3つの苗はそれぞれ異なる性質を持っていて、

一つは幹が赤いのですが、他の二つはグリーンです.

On the right, three seedlings grown up from seeds of 'Gertrude Jekyll' were planted. 

One of them have already started to grow leaves.  

右側には「ガートルード・ジェキル」の種から育てた実生苗です.

一つはもう葉を出しています.

In the back of far left, 

Hardenbergia violacea 'Happy Wanderer' (Purple Vine Lilac) and Euphorbia were planted.  

A large trunk in the front is Campsis radicans (Trumpet Vine).  

一番左の奥にはハーデンベルギア（紫の花が咲くつる性植物）と

ユーフォルビアを植えます. 

手前の太い幹はアメリカノウゼンカズラです.

In the left part of the border front, we planted

Nepeta (Catmint),

Jacobaea maritima (silver ragwort),

Linaria purpurea (white and purple flowers),

Echium candicans,

Margaret,

and Euryops Daisy

Along the narrow brick path, two kinds of rosemary plants

 (pink and Majolica purple) were planted, 

and two clematis plants ('Princes Diana' and 'Rouguchi' ) in the pots

were put on the concrete basis. 

細いレンガの小道に沿って2種類のローズマリーを植え

(ピンクとマジョリカパープル)

鉢植えの二つのクレマチス（プリンセス・ダイアナとロウグチ）を

コンクリートの基礎の上においています.

In the right side of border front, we planted 

Astilbe 'Color Flash' (without leaves now)

Hemerocallis 'Catherine Woodbery' 

and Echium candicans

ボーダーの前列の右側に植えたのは

アスチルベ・カラーフラッシュ（今は葉がない）

ヘメロカリス・キャサリンウッドベリー

Agapanthus has been growing on the right side of the border.

PLANTING SEEDLINGS FOR WINTER & SPRING (冬春に向けた苗の植え付け)

We bought seedlings of flower and vegetable at the autumn festival, 

and we planted them in our garden yesterday. 

Seedlings of viola, pink, alyssum, north pole and Dusty miller were planted
 in the central bed, the peony bed and two large pots.
Seedlings of ornamental cabbage and Katsuona
(a local plant of Brassicaceae in Fukuoka) were planted in the kitchen garden.


花と野菜の苗を昨日庭に植え付けました。

ビオラ、ナデシコ、アリッサム、ノースポール、シロタエギクの苗は
中央花壇やシャクヤク花壇、そして二つの大きなポットに植え、
ハボタンとかつお菜（福岡のアブラナ科の野菜）はポタジェに植えました。

Seedlings bought at the autumn festival. 

Euphorbia 'Diamond Frost' were dug out and replanted in small pots to be protected from  the cold.
ユーフォルビア「ダイアモンドフロスト」を堀上げて小さなポットに植え、寒さから守ります

After that, we planted white viola in the pot.
その後に白いビオラを植えました

We planted blue viola in the other pot.
もうひとつのポットにも青いビオラを植えました

Other seedlings were plannted in the central bed.
他の苗を中央花壇へ

In the peony bed, blue/yellow viola was planted.
シャクヤクの花壇には青と黄のビオラを

Outside of the central bed, pink was planted among forget-me-not.
中央花壇の外側にはワスレナグサの間にナデシコを

After planting, we took a break at the gazebo looking the beautiful roses.
植え付けのあとガゼボで一休みしてきれいなバラを楽しみます

In two triangle beds of the kitchen garden, seedlings of white and purple ornamental cabbage were planted.
ポタジェのふたつの三角形の区画には白と紫のハボタンの苗を植えました

Two seedlings of Katsuona were planted in felt containers.
We'll use it in a soup with rice cakes on New Year's Day.
かつお菜の苗はフェルトのコンテナに植えました
お正月の雑煮でいただきます

IRIS, EUPHORBIA & GYMNASTER (アイリス, ユーフォルビア, ミヤコワスレ)

Spring flowers are in bloom one after another.  Now we can look at blue and white German iris flowers and light green euphorbia flowers in the central flower bed.


（春の花が次々と咲いています。今は中央花壇にジャーマンアイリスの青と白の花、そしてユーフォルビアの黄緑の花が咲いています。）

This is wild euphorbia; Euphorbia helioscopia which I found at the roadside.  It can be seen at in southern part of Japan.


（これは野生のユーフォルビアのトウダイグサで、道端で見つけました。日本の南の地方でふつうにみられます。）

White flowers of Gymnaster savatieri are also blooming under the plum tree.  Its Japanese name is 'Miyako-Wasure', which means 'Forgetting the Capital (Kyoto)'.  This name derived from a story of an emperor who was condemned to exile in 13th century.  He could forget Kyoto when he looked at this flower.


（ミヤコワスレの白い花はスモモの木の下で咲いています。日本名はミヤコワスレで、京都を忘れるという意味です。13世紀の流罪になった天皇の話に由来します。この花を見ると、都への思いを忘れることができると言われたという逸話です。）
