Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

BARNARDIA JAPONICA HAS STARTED TO FLOWER (ツルボが咲き始めました)

Tsurubo (barnardia japoica) is a bulbous plant that blooms with pink flowers, heralding the arrival of autumn. The buds are shaped like horsetails, but small, vibrant pink flowers burst open from the lower part of the inflorescence. As the number of bulbs has increased, I am now growing them in three separate pots, and it is fascinating to see how their flowering times differ slightly.

ツルボは球根性の植物で、秋の到来を告げるピンクの花を咲かせます。つぼみはつくしんぼうのような形ですが、ピンクのぱっとはじけるような小花を花穂の下の方から咲かせてきます。球根が増えたので、今は3つの鉢に分けて育てていますが、少しずつ開花の時期が違うのが不思議です。

BARNARDIA JAPONICA IN LATE SUMMER (夏の終わりの可愛いツルボの花)

Barnardia japonica is a bulbous plant that produces lovely pink flower spikes in late summer. It is native to East Asia, including Japan, and in my neighborhood, it grows in clusters along the roads of coastal pine forests. We grow it in pots in our garden, and it is flowering just now.

ツルボは晩夏にピンクの可愛らしい花穂を伸ばす球根植物です. 日本を含む東アジア原産で、私の近所では海岸の松原の道路沿いで群生しています. 私たちの庭では鉢植えで育てていますが、ちょうど今、開花しています.

PRETTY FLOWERS BLOOMING WITH A HINT OF AUTUMN (秋の気配を感じて咲く可憐な花)

Barnardia japonica bears pretty pink florets in late summer.

This is a bulbous plant and is native to East Asia.

Pink flower spikes consist of many florets.

I bring the pots to the centre of the garden in early September to enjoy this pretty flowers.

ツルボは晩夏に可愛いピンクの小花をつけます.

球根性の植物で、東アジアの原産です.

花穂にはたくさんの小花がついています.

九月の初めには鉢を庭の中央にもってきてこの可愛らしい花を楽しみます.

LOVELY PINK FLOWERS OF BARNARDIA JAPONICA (ツルボの可愛いピンクの花)

The tsurubo or Barnardia japonica is a bulbous plant native to East Asia, including Japan, and produces pretty pink flowers around the beginning of September. This year, too, it started to grow spikes of flowers about two weeks ago and has only started to bloom in the last few days.

This summer was the second hottest summer so far, and the weather has been unusual, with almost no rainfall in our area during the rainy season. Japanese summers are becoming too hot for gardening. Drinking ale in the evening in the air-conditioned garden room is a weekend treat.

ツルボは日本を含めて東アジアの原産の球根植物で、9月の初めごろにピンク色の可愛らしい花を咲かせます. 今年も2週間ほど前から花穂を伸ばし始めて、ここ数日で咲き始めました.

今年の夏は今までで2番目に暑い夏だったそうで、梅雨の時期に当地ではほとんど雨が降らないなど、異常な気象が続きました. 日本の夏はガーデニングには不向きなほど気温が高くなってきています. 冷房の効いたガーデンルームで夕方にエールを飲むのが週末の楽しみになっています.
