CHESTNUTS (栗)

This week, we have been picking up chestnuts on the road in our neighbourhood 

during our daily walk in the morning.  

Chestnuts fell down on the road, and some of them were eaten 

by some wild animals (wild boars or badgers?), 

and we got the rest.  

今週は毎日の朝の散歩で

ご近所の道で栗を拾いました。

栗が道路に落ちて、それを野生の動物

（たぶんイノシシかアナグマ？）が食べ、

残りを私たちが拾います。

My wife made sweet-boiled chestnuts, 

and today I enjoyed them with ice cream and bean jam.  

It tasted very good.  

家内が栗の甘露煮を作って、

今日はアイスクリームとあんと一緒にいただきました。

とってもおいしかった。

CHESTNUT

There are many chestnut trees in our neighborhood, and September is a harvest season of it.  I take a walk every weekday morning with Marple before going to work, and we found a first chestnut on the road on 30 August.

Since that, we have been checking the chestnut trees along the walking course.  Half a dozen of chestnuts we found on some days, and nothing on the other days.  It's a fun to take a walk in this season.  Many neighbors are taking a walk, and they must be looking for the chestnut, too.

And, on 18 September, we found as many chestnuts as Marple's hands could hold!  Total of this season until this time was over 500 gram.

Marple peeled off the shell and boiled and sweetened with their skin  (astringent coat) still attached.  （渋皮煮） It tastes really delicious.
