DINNER CEREBRATING ANNIVERSARY (記念日を祝うディナー)
A couple of days ago, we went to the local restaurant 'Grand Deli'. It was a dinner cerebrating anniversary of Marple and me.
The restaurant is located in our town, 5 minutes drive from our cottage. There is a little private garden beside the restaurant, and we always looked into it when we visited there. Flowers and fresh green leaves were beautiful.
（おととい、近くのレストラン「グラン・デリ」へ行きました。私たちの記念日を祝ってのディナーです。このレストランは町内にあって車で5分ほどのところです。お店の横に小さなお庭があって、いつも食事にいくと庭を見せてもらっています。お花や新緑がとてもきれいでした。）

The cuisine tasted excellent. This restaurant had appeared in the Michelin Guides of our area (Fukuoka and Saga, 2014). We took time eating and it was a really nice evening.

ANOTHER GARDEN OPENING WITH US (一緒に公開するもう一つのお庭)
This is another private garden opening with us in our neighbourhood. The owner is a man who had lived in England for two years during his twenties. He moved here several years ago, and made his garden by himself. He is also a good cook and we always enjoyed his delicious dishes.
（ここはご近所で私たちと一緒に庭を公開予定のもう一つの庭です。持ち主は20代に2年間イギリスに住んでいた男性です。数年前に近くに引っ越してきて、独力で庭をつくられました。彼は料理も上手で、おいしい料理を私たちもいつも楽しんでいます。）

THE GARDEN OPENING WITH US (一緒にオープンガーデンのお庭)
Yesterday, we visited our friend in our neighbourhood. She has been a keen gardener for more than twenty years, and has made a beautiful garden with her husband.
（昨日は近くのお友達を訪ねました。彼女は20年以上熱心なガーデナーで、ご主人と一緒に美しい庭をつくってきました。）
She is a good garden designer and her husband is a good amateur carpenter and cement mason.
The garden cannot be seen from the outside, so we had never known this secret garden until she invited us. Last year, we proposed her to open her garden with us for charity, and she accepted our proposal. So many visitors satisfied with its beauty and silence.
（彼女は庭のデザインが上手で、ご主人は大工仕事や左官仕事など上手にされます。外からはここのお庭はまったく見えず、彼女に招待されるまではまったくこの秘密のお庭のことは知りませんでした。昨年、私たちと一緒にチャリティーのオープンガーデンの開催を提案し、承諾していただきました。ほんとにたくさんの皆さんが、美しさと静かけさに満足されました。）
She made a new kitchen garden last winter, and many vegetables are growing.
（彼女は昨冬に新しく菜園をつくり、たくさんの野菜が今育っています。）
She is opening her secret garden with us on 16th and 17th May.
（今年も私たちと一緒に5月16日と17日に秘密のお庭を公開されます。）

A JAPANESE GARDEN IN SCOTLAND DESIGNED BY A JAPANESE WOMAN IN 1908 (明治の日本人女性が設計したスコットランドの日本庭園)
Several months ago, Itsuko-san, my classmate of English conversation class, gave me a newspaper-clipping introducing a Japanese Garden designed in early 20th century.
In the article, it was written that a Japanese woman who learned horticulture at Studley College (Warwickshire) in England designed a Japanese garden at Cowden Castle in Scotland in 1908. Her name is Taki Handa. She was born in 1871 at Kurume City in Kyusyu Island. Kurume City is very close to my home town. I was really surprised to know that a Japanese woman made a Japanese garden in Scotland more than 100 years ago!
I researched about this amazing story, and I found a report written by her granddaughter in Japanese (unfortunately this report is not available on internet). She was a teacher of English and Horticulture of a woman's collage in Kyoto, a mother of children, a wife of an army surgeon and a manager of a fruit farm.
I found a English web page (here) which introduces the Japanese Garden of Cowden Castle in Scotland.

B & B WITH NATURAL GARDEN
Today I introduce another stunning garden of a B&B we stayed last month.
It is located in a wood on a highland south of Mt. Yatsugatake near Mt. Fuji.
The garden is quite natural-style.
The 'Pollyanna' opened in 1981. This is a kind of B&B style hotel called 'pension' in Japanese. They serve dinner as well as breakfast. They have about ten rooms, almost of which has no bath or toilet. The price is quite reasonable.
This garden was introduced in the Japanese gardening magazine in 2004. I read this magazine at the Cafe Cotton Weed. I read the history of this B&B and the garden, and was deeply impressed. The owners are so friendly, and they told that their garden will be introduced in the next issue of the magazine, which will be published next week.
I want to visit there again in the future.

A STUNNING PRIVATE GARDEN
This private garden is located on the southern hillside of Mt. Yatsugatake. I really had been looking forward to visiting the garden.
Mr. and Mrs. T & K have been creating this stunning English garden for years by themselves. A ruin of stone wall, a garden pond, stone pavements, gate posts, steps etc. are his works.
Though roses had almost been over, many perennials such as catmint and clematis were so beautiful.

The garden was far more stunning than I expected, and Mr. and Mrs. T & K were really nice persons. In spite of weather forecast of rain, it was a nice day without rain and a unforgettable day for us.
