Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

THE LAST RED ROSE HAS BLOOMED (最後の赤いバラ開花)

The red climbing rose 'Excelsa', also known as 'Red Dorothy Perkins', has flowered and is now in bloom, which I have trained to the bronze obelisk in the central flower bed in the Main garden. The flowers are bright red with a hint of pink. The afternoon sun makes them glow a dazzling red. In the central flower bed, pink campanulas and white laceflowers are also in bloom and the area is still very lively.

主庭の中央花壇にあるブロンズ色のオベリスクに誘引した赤いつるバラのエクセルサ、別名レッドドロシーパーキンスが開花しました. 花色は少しピンクがかった真っ赤です. 午後の日差しで眩いばかりに真っ赤に輝いています. 中央花壇ではピンクのカンパニュラ、白いレースフラワーなども咲いて、まだまだにぎやかです.

FLOWERS IN THE MORNING OF LATE MAY (五月下旬の庭の花々)

It was sunny all day today, with a high of 28°C (82°F) and sweaty daytime temperatures. I avoided working in the garden during the day and worked in the garden in the morning and evening. Early in the morning, before the sun has yet to shine in the main garden, the garden looks beautiful. Some flowers (such as water lilies) do not open until the sun rises, but it is a cool and pleasant time with temperatures less than 20°C.

今日は一日晴れて、最高気温が28℃まで上がり、昼間は汗ばむ陽気でした. 昼間の庭仕事は避けて、午前中と夕方に庭で作業をしました. 早朝、まだ主庭に日が射す前の時間、庭は美しい表情を見せます. 日が昇らないと開かない花（スイレンなど）もありますが、気温が20度以下で涼しくて気持ちのよい時間です.

FLOWERS STARTING TO BLOOM (咲き始めの花たち)

It's the second half of May, the peak rose season has passed earlier than usual, and other flowers are starting to bloom.

The first one is Nigella. It is an annual plant with beautiful white and blue flowers. The seed pods are swollen and cute!

五月も後半、例年より早くバラの最盛期も過ぎて、他のお花が咲き始めています.

最初はニゲラ、白と青の美しい花をつける一年草で、種子のさやは膨らんできて、とても可愛いのも特徴です.

The next is Campanula punctata. Our variety is white and blooms in a corner where white flowers are gathered.

次はホタルブクロです. うちのは白色で、白い花を集めた一角に咲いています.

And the last is dahlia. A short, orange variety. It continues to bloom every year without replanting.

最後はダリアです. オレンジ色の草丈の低い品種です. 毎年植え替えなしでずっと咲き続けてくれます.

RAINY SEASON HAS BEGUN (梅雨入り)

Japanese Met Office declared that the rainy season has begun
in the north part of Kyushu Island.

We had 50 mm rainfall today.
Our garden looks fresh, however, long flower spikes such as foxglove, echium and hydrangea fell because of heavy soaked flowers.
Red trumpet vine already bears many flowers over the blue border.

THE SEASON IS CHANGING (季節は移る)

The season is changing from refreshing early summer to humid rainy season.
Roses are still flowering,
some of them is in full bloom, others have almost finished.
Beautiful dark blue flower of Salvia guraranitica has started to flower
in the blue border, with catmint and nigella.
In the central raised bed, Mexican bush sage looks stunning.
You can look at all of them on YouTube movie.

爽やかな初夏から蒸し蒸しする梅雨へと季節は移りつつあります.
まだバラは咲いていて、
満開のものもあれば、ほとんど終わったものもあります.
青い花の花壇ではサルビアガラニチカの濃いブルーの花が
キャットミントやニゲラと一緒に咲き始めています.
中央の花壇ではアメジストがきれいです.
ユーチューブの動画でこれらの花がみんな見られます.
