Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

FAREWELL TO THE ORNAMENTAL VEG FRAMES IN THE POTAGER (さようなら、美しい野菜フレーム)

The summer cypress is now turning red in the potager. In the triangular raised beds, seedlings of spring flowers are growing.

今ポタジェではコキアが真っ赤に色づいています. 三角のレイズドベッドでは春に咲く花々の苗が育ってきています.

The pentagonal cages used as vegetable frames were originally built as cold frames ten years ago. It was made so that the triangular roof could be opened and closed. It has since been fitted with fine netting to prevent pest damage to the vegetables.

野菜フレームとして使っている五角形のケージは、もともと10年前にコールドフレームとして作ったものです. 三角形の屋根が開閉できるように作っていました. その後、野菜への害虫の被害を防ぐために細かい網をつけています.

These frames have been the ornamental focal point of the Potager for ten years. But, as you would expect, after 10 years they are rotting and breaking down.

これらのフレームはポタジェの美しいフォーカルポイントとして10年間愛用してきました. しかし、さすがに10年経過して朽ちて壊れてきています.

So I decided to scrap these frames. After this, I will come up with some new pest prevention measures.

それで、これらのフレームを解体することにしました. このあとは、また何か新しい害虫防止策を考えようと思います.

RENETTING THE FRAMES IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェのフレームの網張り)

The two pentagonal frames of the potager were originally made as cold frames, but because of the heat in the summer they were fitted with stainless steel netting to keep out insects. The netting was torn in one part and needed to be repaired, so this time it was covered with screen mesh for house windows.

These frames also serve as the focal point of the potager. These unique shapes give this potager a unique character.

ポタジェの2個の五角形のフレームはもともとはコールドフレームとして作ったものですが、夏は暑いのでステンレス製のネットを取り付けて害虫除けとして使用するようになりました. ネットが一部分で破れたため修理が必要になり、今回は網戸の網を張りました.

これらのフレームはポタジェのフォーカルポイントとしての役割もあります. これらのユニークな形がこのポタジェに独自性を与えています.

THE POTAGER IN THE MORNING SUNLIGHT (朝日のあたるポタジェ)

I trimmed box hedge in the kitchen garden last week,
and it looks neat now.
Globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa) is in full bloom.
The morning sunlight awaken plants in the garden.
