Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

PRUNING WORK IN CENTRAL FLOWER BED (中央花壇の剪定作業)

After an unseasonably warm November, it has suddenly become as cold as the middle of winter. It is time to prune the plants in the central flower bed at the front of the garden room.

First, I trimmed the chaste tree in the centre of the flower bed to a height of 60 cm from the ground. It had started to flower around June, bloomed repeatedly and still had flowers at the tips. I cut it short every year to control its height, as it can grow up to five metres high if not pruned.

The next step is to prune the two types of vines that have been trained up to the welded wire mesh against the wall of the garden room. Only the main vines are left and all the other vines and leaves are cut off. In spring they will grow new vines and flower again.

季節外れの暖かい11月が終わって、急に真冬のような寒さになってきました. ガーデンルームの正面にある中央花壇の植物たちの剪定の時期です.

最初に花壇の中央にあるセイヨウニンジンボクを地面から60センチほどの高さに切り詰めました. 六月ごろから咲き始めて、繰り返し咲き、先端にはまだ花もついていました. 剪定しないと高さが5メートルほどまで大きくなるので、毎年短く切って高さを調節しています.

次はガーデンルームの壁に立てかけた溶接金網に誘引した二種類のつる性植物たちの剪定です. 主なつるだけ残して、あとの枝葉は全部切ってしまいます. 春にはまた新しい枝を伸ばして花を咲かせてくれます.

In the central flower bed, in which plants have been pruned, there are many blue flowers of ageratum. They are not cold hardy and will soon die back.

剪定の終わった中央花壇では、アゲラタムの青色の花がたくさん咲いています. 耐寒性がないので間もなく枯れていくと思います.

BLUE FLOWERS IN MID-SUMMER (真夏の青い花たち)

The hot summer days are continuing. Today I would like to show you some of the blue flowers in the garden which are blooming in spite of the heat.

The pretty flowers of the ageratum are blooming in the flower bed by the window of the garden room. They are in the best view from the room and give a cooler feeling.

真夏の暑い日が続いています. この暑さに負けずに咲いている庭の青い花を今日は紹介します.

ガーデンルームの窓辺の花壇にはアゲラタムの可愛らしい花が咲いています. 部屋から一番よく見えるところにあって、涼しさを感じさせてくれます.

Ageratum アゲラタム

In the blue beds the catmint has been in bloom since May. The agapanthus is almost finished flowering. A few dark blue Salvia guaranitica is also blooming. And the chaste tree, which blooms repeatedly until early autumn, has finally started to flower.

The chaste tree in the central flower bed is also starting to flower.

The potato vine on the wall of the garden room is also increasing in number of flowers. They are very cool and pretty.

青の花壇ではキャットミントが五月からずっと咲き続けています. アガパンサスはそろそろ花も終わりかけています. 濃い青のサルビアガラニチカも少しですが咲いています. そして、初秋まで繰り返し咲き続けるセイヨウニンジンボクがいよいよ咲き始めました.

中央花壇のセイヨウニンジンボクも一緒に咲き始めています.

ガーデンルームの壁のツルハナナスも花数が増えてきています. とても涼しげな可愛らしい花です.
