Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

THE WORLD OF WILLIAM MORRIS’S ACANTHUS WALLPAPER (ウイリアムモリスのアカンサスの壁紙の世界)

William Morris designed wallpaper with botanical motifs in the 19th century, which remains popular in the 21st century. One wall of the garden room in the garden is covered with his signature Acanthus wallpaper. Through a window in the wall, We have grown the Acanthus mollis, creating a collaboration between the wallpaper and the garden. The Acanthus is now growing spikes of flowers and beginning to flower. This is the first year that the variegated Acanthus has grown pure white spikes of flowers. We are looking forward to the flowering.

ウイリアムモリスは19世紀に植物をモチーフにした壁紙をデザインし、21世紀の今でもその人気は続いています. 庭のガーデンルームの壁の一面は彼の代表作のアカンサスの壁紙を使っています. その壁面の窓からは、そのモチーフとなったアカンサスモリスを育てて、壁紙と庭のコラボレーションを図っています. そのアカンサスが今、花穂を伸ばして花を咲かせ始めています. 斑入りのアカンサスも今年は初めて純白の花穂を伸ばしてきました. 花が咲くのが楽しみです.

FLOWERS OF ACANTHUS AND WALLPAPER (アカンサスの花と壁紙)

The acanthus mollis flowers are in full bloom now. They are shining against the background of the border flower bed, which is already shaded by the western sun.

The flowers are clearly visible from the garden room window. The walls of the garden room are covered with acanthus wallpaper designed by William Morris. The design is based on the acanthus leaf motif.

アカンサスの花は今満開です. 西日を受けてすでに日陰になったボーダー花壇を背景にして輝いています.

花はガーデンルームの窓からよく見えます. ガーデンルームの壁にはウイリアムモリスのデザインのアカンサスの壁紙を貼りました. アカンサスの葉をモチーフにしたデザインです.
