Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

FLOWERS IN THE MORNING OF LATE MAY (五月下旬の庭の花々)

It was sunny all day today, with a high of 28°C (82°F) and sweaty daytime temperatures. I avoided working in the garden during the day and worked in the garden in the morning and evening. Early in the morning, before the sun has yet to shine in the main garden, the garden looks beautiful. Some flowers (such as water lilies) do not open until the sun rises, but it is a cool and pleasant time with temperatures less than 20°C.

今日は一日晴れて、最高気温が28℃まで上がり、昼間は汗ばむ陽気でした. 昼間の庭仕事は避けて、午前中と夕方に庭で作業をしました. 早朝、まだ主庭に日が射す前の時間、庭は美しい表情を見せます. 日が昇らないと開かない花（スイレンなど）もありますが、気温が20度以下で涼しくて気持ちのよい時間です.

MAY HAS COME (五月が来た)

The most beautiful time, May, has come.

In my garden, gorgeous flowers, such as rose and peony, bloom in May.

最も美しいとき、五月、がやってきました.

うちの庭ではバラやシャクヤクなどゴージャスな花が五月に咲きます.

Pittosporum tobira (Japanese Cheesewood) is in full bloom in the bluebell garden.
It has a strong sweet scent.
トベラがブルーベルの庭で満開です. 強い芳香があります.

In the terraced herb bed, borage and camomille is flowering.
and Mexican sage has started to flower in the central flower bed.
ハーブの段々畑ではボリジとカモミールが咲いています.
アメジストセージが中央花壇では咲き始めました.

Foxglove and delphinium has started to flower, too.
ジギタリスとデルフィニウムも咲き始めています.

Echium candicans is still so beautiful.
エキウムカンディカンスもまだとても綺麗です.

We grow echium in pots, too.
Flowers in pots are smaller than those planted in the ground.
エキウムは鉢でも育てています.
鉢植えは地植えより花が小さいです.

One of amaryllises which my friend presented to me, is in bloom.
友人がくれたアマリリスの一つが咲いています.

An iron arbour are covered with Rosa 'Snow Goose', which bears a number of flower buds.
鉄製のドーム型アーチにはバラのスノーグースが無数の花の蕾をつけています.

Hosta is growing beside a plum tree.
And pink ｍarguerite is flowering in a pot.
ギボウシがスモモの木のところに育ってきています.
ピンクのマーガレットが鉢で咲いています.

An iron arch is covered with well grown Rosa 'Angela'.
And leaves of a standard Campsis grandiflora are growing.
鉄のアーチにはバラのアンジェラが茂っていて、
スタンダード仕立てのノウゼンカズラの葉も育ってきました.

Akebia (left) and climbing roses (right) are growing,
and jasmine is flowering at the small fountain.

THE MAIN GARDEN THIS WEEKEND (週末のメインガーデン)

It was a beautiful day today.
In the morning, flowers of the border and the central raised bed look so stunning
in the morning sunshine.

今日はいい天気で、
朝日の中、ボーダーやレイズドベッドの花々がとても綺麗でした.

At noon, we drove to the beautiful seashore in our neibourhood (ten-minute drive)
and ate rice balls and came home via a pond. There was few cars and people.

お昼は車で10分ほどの美しい海辺へ行っておにぎりを食べました.
そして池を経由して帰りました.　車や人はほとんどいませんでした.

In the afternoon, the sun shone from the southwest and the garden looked different from in the morning.

午後は日は南西から照り、午前中とはまた違って見えます.

In the evening, Gladiolus tristis var. concolor strongly smelt in the central bed.

夕方、中央花壇でグラジオラストリスティスが強い香りを放ちます.

OTHER FLOWERS IN EARLY JUNE (六月初旬のその他の花)

Though a couple of weeks has passed since July began,
We've had little rain, just 5mm.
Weather is dry and not so hot and we have less mosquito than usual.
So, it is comfortable even in the rainy season.
However, watering is necessary every day.
It takes an hour in our garden.

六月に入っていすでに2週間が過ぎていますが
ほとんど雨は降らず、たったの5ミリだけ
天気は乾いてそう暑くはないし、蚊も例年より少ないので
梅雨の時期としては快適です.
でも毎日水やりが必要で
一時間ぐらいかかります.

Today I post the photos of flowers except roses in our garden
in early June.

今日は六月の上旬のバラ以外の庭の花の写真を載せます.
