and a sleeping angel is waiting too at the gazebo window in the main garden.

ESPALIER APPLE TREES IN THE POTAGER (ポタジェの垣根仕立てのリンゴ)

I love apple flowers.
The flower buds have pretty pink colour, and the petals are light pink to white.
When I planned and made the kitchen garden,
I planted, at first, apple trees along the periphery of the plot
in order to make espalier.
About four years have passed since that,
and the apple trees have grown and bear flowers and fruits.


私はリンゴの花が大好きです.
蕾はきれいなピンク色で、花びらは薄いピンクから白い色です.
キッチンガーデンを計画して作る時に
まず私は用地の周辺にリンゴの苗を植えつけました.
垣根にするためです.
それから約4年が経ち、
このリンゴの木は花をつけ、実をつけます.



Two years ago I made a wire arch for apple,
and some branches had grown and been trained to the arch.

2年ほど前に鉄筋でリンゴのアーチを作りましたが
枝が伸びアーチに誘引しています.

Iron pipes are used as posts to support apple branches, 

and glass bottles are put on the top of posts. 

Both are painted blue. 

鉄のパイプをリンゴの枝の支柱として使い

ガラス瓶をその上に固定しました.

どちらも青に塗っています.

A blue obelisk supports a standard rose (Mary Rose) 

ブルーのオベリスクはスタンダード仕立てのバラ（メアリー・ローズ）を支えています.

FLOWERS NOW IN OUR GARDEN (庭の花々)

Yesterday afternoon we enjoy watching cherry blossom, talking and drinking
beer and tea with neighbours.
It is a good Japanese tradition to talk and drink under flowering cherry trees
during the daytime and at evening.

昨日の午後はご近所さんたちと花見とおしゃべり、紅茶やビールをのんで楽しみました.
昼間や夜に桜の花の下で飲んでおしゃべりするのは日本の良き伝統です.

THE KITCHEN GARDEN AT THE END OF WINTER (冬の終わりのポタジェ)

It was a gorgeous day today; sunny and warm.
Broccoli has been producing in the potager for three months,
however, spring is just around the corner.
So, we must prepare for the next season.

今日は晴れて暖かく、ゴージャスな日和でした.
ブロッコリーはっまだ芽が育っていて、もう3ヶ月も続いています.
でも、春はすぐそこ、
次のシーズンに向けて準備しなくては・・

Some foxgloves are in bloom.
ジギタリスの花が少し咲いています.

We are eating brussels sprouts and red cabbage.
メキャベツと赤キャベツはいま食べているところです.

One pentagonal bed (kohlrabi and parsnip are over) is empty.
一つの区画（コールラビとパースニップは終わり）は空になりました. 

I planted nasturtium seedlings in the square bed.  

I saw seeds in cells after the coldest day in 30 years at the end of January when nasturtium had been damaged.  

四角い区画にナスタチウムの苗を植えました.

30年ぶりの寒さでナスタチウムが駄目になったので、種をまいていたのです.

I moved two cold frame from pentagonal asparagus beds where poppies are now growing 

to other pentagonal beds where winter vegetables had been planted.  

Well grown poppies look so springlike.  

ポピーが育ってきているアスパラガスの五角形の区画から

冬野菜が育っていた区画へコールドフレームを移動しました. 

良く育ったポピーはとても春らしくみえます.

DIVERSE COLOURS OF POPPIES (ポピーの花色の多様さ)

We had planted many poppies in the potager this year, and I have noticed that there are so many different colours of petals.  In addition, there are three colours of stamens.  I have been taking photographs of poppies for weeks, and there are about eighteen different types of poppy flowers, one of which is double.  I show them in this post.  Most of them are corn poppies.


（今年はたくさんポピーをポタジェに植えましたが、花びらの色がたくさんあることに気が付きました。さらに、おしべの色も3種類あるようです。ここ何週間かポピーの写真を撮ってきて、およそ18種類の花があり、そのうち一つは八重咲きです。それらを皆さんに紹介しましょう。ほとんどが、ヒナゲシと呼ばれる花です。）

Five varieties with dark colour stamens.  （濃い色のおしべの5種類）

A double flower with pure red petals and black stamens

Twelve varieties with yellow stamens.  （黄色いおしべの12種類）

The only one with white stamens. This must be Oriental poppy.  （白いおしべは１種類だけ。これはオリエンタル・ポピーのようです。）
