Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

THE KUMQUAT BLOSSOM BLOOMS TIME AND AGAIN (何度も咲くキンカンの花)

Flowers are blooming on the seedless kumquat tree to the right of the chaste tree. Although the flowers are small and white, it is curious to see tiny fruits growing alongside them. This is because kumquat trees flower repeatedly; the fruits that formed from the flowers that bloomed around June are now growing slightly larger. The fruits will continue to grow gradually and will ripen to a yellow colour between January and March, at which point they will be ready to eat. As they are seedless, they can be eaten whole and have a wonderful flavour.

セイヨウニンジンボクの右側の種なしキンカンに花が咲いています。小さな白い花ですが、花の横に小さな実がついているのが不思議です。これはキンカンが何度も花を繰り返し咲かせるためで、６月頃に咲いた花についた実が少し大きくなっているのです。実は少しずつ大きくなって、１月から３月頃に黄色く熟して食べられるようになります。種がなくてまるごと食べられ、とても良い風味です。
