Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

WE'VE WELCOMED SOME NEW PEONIES (新しいピオニーたちをお迎えしました)

Whilst some of the peonies and tree peonies bloomed beautifully this spring, others failed to flower properly or withered away.

今年の春は牡丹や芍薬がきれいに咲いたのもありましたが、うまく咲かなかったり枯れたりしたものもありました。

So, I decided to introduce some new varieties and ordered four types of seedlings back in the summer. Those seedlings arrived the other day.

そこで、新しい品種をお迎えすることにして、4種類の苗を夏に注文していました。その苗が先日届きました。

I removed the weeds and dead peonies from the peony raised bed and moved some of the plants to new locations.

ピオニーのレイズドベッドの雑草や枯れた芍薬を取り除き、一部は場所を移動しました。

The new additions are the tree peony ‘Kasugano’ (a rare variety), and the tree peonies ‘Sarah Bernhardt’, ‘Goldilocks’ and ‘Lavon’.

新しく迎えたのは、牡丹の「春日野」（希少品種）、芍薬の「サラベルナール」、「ゴールディロックス」、そして「ラボン」です。

I planted them in potting compost mixed with specialised soil, fertiliser, compost and leaf mould, and put up new nameplates for each one. I hope they’ll bloom beautifully next April and May.

培養土に専用の用土や肥料、堆肥、腐葉土などを混ぜて植え付け、それぞれに新たにネームプレートを立てました。来年の4月、5月にきれいに咲いてくれることを祈ります。
