ORANGE ROSES ON THE BRICK WALL (橙色のバラがレンガ塀で)
Climbing roses on the right side of the brick wall consist of three varieties of roses which bear orange flowers; 'Pat Austin', 'Crown Princes Margarita' and 'Teasing Georgia'.
They flower repeatedly several times in a season.
The most vigorous rose is 'Pat Austin' right now, and bears many beautiful orange flowers.
レンガ塀の右側にはオレンジ色のつるバラ3種類を育てています.
パットオースチン、クラウンプリンセスマルガリータ、ティージングジョージア
年に何度か返り咲きをします
今はパットオースチンが一番元気で、たくさん花をつけています

LE ROUGE ET LE NOIR (赤と黒)
Spangle butterflies (Papilio protenor) were sucking nectar
from flowers of trumpet vine (Campsis radicans) this morning.
The butterfly is not noticeable if it doesn't move.
Some of it remained motionless for several minutes,
concentrating in sucking nectar.
今朝、アメリカノウゼンカズラの花からクロアゲハが蜜を吸っていました
動かないと目立ちません
数分間ずっと蜜を吸ってじっと動かないのもいました

PRUNING ROSES FOR FLOWERS IN AUTUMN (秋バラのための剪定)
Roses beside the sleeper steps were pruned last Sunday.
Some roses had grown more than six feet high.
We cut flowers and arranged in the small fountain.
The roses will bloom again in October.
日曜日に枕木の階段の横のバラたちを剪定しました.
２メートル以上に伸びたバラもありました.
花は切って小さな噴水に生けました.
バラたちは十月にまた咲きます.

WHITE LANTANA (白いランタナ)
White lantana has been flowering
for a long time in the entral raised bed in the main garden.
This was grown from a cutting several years ago.
In late autumn it was cut at the height of a foot every year.
中央花壇で長い間ずっと白いランタナが咲いています.
数年前に挿し木で育てたものです.
毎年秋の終わりに地面から30センチほどの高さで切ります.

SUNCHOKE GROWS HIGH ABOVE (高く育つキクイモ)
Sunchoke, or Jerusalem artichoke, is growing in our garden.
We grow them behind the trellis and the brick wall
because it grows more than 10 feet high.
Some flower buds are appearing on the top of it.
キクイモ、別名エルサレムアーティチョークが庭で育っています
3メートル以上に育つためトレリスやレンガ塀の後ろで育てています
とっぺんに少し蕾がついてきました
We grow it in felt containers because it is much easier to harvest tubers.
芋の収穫がしやすいので、フェルトのコンテナで育てています
It bears small flower buds.
Trumpet vine continuously bear red flowers beside sunchoke in summer.
ノウゼンカズラはずっと夏の間、赤い花をつけています

ROSES IN AUGUST (八月の薔薇)
Today is the last day of Obon Festival
(The festival of Buddhist when people meet their ancestors and dead family members)
and the anniversary of the end of the Pacific War.
People in Japan usually meet their family in Obon Festival, however,
the COVID-19 pandemic make us to do it.
We gave up to meet our family this time, and we are staying home.
Some of roses in the main garden are in bloom in spite of a baking hot weather.
Marple waters the whole of our gardens every late afternoon, drenching in sweat.
今日はお盆の最終日、
そして終戦記念日です.
今年は新型コロナウイルスのため、
お盆でも家族と会うことがむずかしくなっています.
うちも集まるのはやめにして、ステイホームです.
メインガーデンではいくつかのバラが焼けつくような暑さの中、咲いています.
家内は毎日夕方に庭全体に水やりをして、汗びっしょりです.

BLUE MISTFLOWER LOOKS COOL (ユーパトリウムが涼しげです)
Blue mistflower is full bloom in our garden.
It is grown in two containers;
one beside the white wooden fence, and the other beside the brick wall.
Its light blue colour looks cool
in spite of the boiling hot weather.
セイヨウフジバカマ（ユーパトリウム）が満開です
二つの鉢で育てています
ひとつは白いフェンスのところに、もうひとつはレンガ塀の横で
うだるような暑さの中でも、水色の花が涼しく見えます
