Karin or Chinese Quince (Pseudocydonia sinensis) is now flowering in our garden.
Pseudocydonia sinensis is a deciduous Tree growing to 6 m by 6 m at a slow rate.  The fruit is very large (up to 18cm) and can be eaten as a sweetmeat, candied, preserved in syrup or made into a liqueur.  The fruit is antitussive.  It contains several medically active constituents and is used to treat common cold, sore throats.  Unfortunately, it cannot eat raw because it is too hard and bitter.  We planted this because we love cup-shaped pink flowers very much.

The karin is at the center.
