FELLING TALL TREES (高木を切る）

There had grown large trees on the left side of our garden.  

One of them was Ilex integra, which is a kind of holly and is native in eastern Asia.  

I liked its evergreen leaves and red fruits in winter time, however, 

it was just above the border and a small pool, 

and we had to clean its flowers, fruits, and leaves every year.  

Other trees, especially Japanese cedars were nothing but nuisance.  

They had grown so high and large that a view from the window was obstructed, 

and what was worse, their pollen made neighbors' hay fever worse. 

I hesitated for years to fell the trees, however, 

I decided to do it recently.  

庭の左側に大きな木が育ってきていました.

ひとつはモチノキで、東アジア原産です。
その常緑の葉や冬の赤い実が好きでしたが、
ボーダーや池の上にあって
花や実、落ち葉などいつも掃除をしなくてはいけませんでした.

他の木、特にスギは、迷惑なだけで、
とても大きく、そして高く育ってしまって窓からの眺めをさえぎり、
さらに、ご近所の花粉症を悪くしていました.

何年も迷っていましたが、
最近決心して切ることにしました.

Yesterday, four woodcutters came and they felled the trees.  

At first they cut lateral branches as they climbed, 

and then they cut a trunk from the top to the bottom.  

昨日、四人の大木をきるプロの人たちがきました. 

最初に登りながら横の枝を切っていき、

今度は一番上から降りていきながら幹を切りました.

 It took four hours to fell five trees by four men.  

The view from the window dramatically changed as shown below.  

It is also good that they were cut just before the beginning of a hay fever season by cedar pollen.


5本の大木を4人で4時間ほどかかって切り終わりました.
窓からの眺めは下の写真のように劇的によくなり、
スギ花粉による花粉症の季節がくる直前に切ることができました.
